    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Cleric"

I've DM'd 1 successful use of Divine Inspiration in 10 years, and while it helped, it wasn't critical to success for the PCs. The best Cleric moment I've ever seen was a level 19 BBEG fight (Modified Terrasque that was NASTY) where the cleric had been swallowed and making death saves with 2...

They'll still stun on 50%+ of their attempts against a typical caster, taking them out of half of all rounds and when they don't, can set up a Paladin, Rogue or Battle Master fighter for a nasty crit on the next attack.

D&D 5E (2024) What is the 2024 Bard Power Source?

I'm down with equating Old magic with Psionic, but would argue that Psionic magic is the magic of our world leaking thru the Far Realms into the D&D Multiverse. After all, D&D was created by words from our world. It's the magic of our imagination.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

So at level 20 any bard could have 14 spells from other lists (11 from swaps, 4 from new prepared slots) and a Lore Bard could have 16 (assuming they still get two extra prepared slots with their feature).

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

True that the party DPR would be lower, but the groups ability to mitigate enemy DPR (healing, charm, defense buff) should prove enough to keep them well ahead of the curve in combat, not to mention being capable of avoiding combat all together in many situations.

D&D 5E (2024) What is the 2024 Bard Power Source?

In the video Crawford mentioned that their power comes from the words of creation that formed the universe, so I'll go with OLD MAGIC, the root that eventually split into three branches.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

Right, in that case I'm guessing that the Lore Bard's feature adds an additional prepared space that they can also change every level. So at level 10 they are able to change out that spell and one other.

Revenge for all the extremely thoughtful, long essays they write that I can never not read :)

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

Had the same thought, but thought that the Magical Discovery feature might be a specific restriction, as otherwise it would be the same as Magical Secrets at 10 and they would gain no benefit from it. IE. Lore Bards get to dip into the expanded spell list early, but only for 1 spell and that...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Cleric"

I really like the new Divine Inspiration feature, but will likely add the ability to use it in the old way as well (with the same limitation that if it works, you loose access for a week, and if it doesn't it still counts as the use for the day). Keeps the Hail Mary there for when you really...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

Gonna be really, really hard picking between Glamour and Dance. And maybe more than any other class, it feels like a party of 4 Bards with each of the subclasses would be an extremely capable group. Nice mix of magic and matial early, expertise covers a lot of skill check ground, and once they...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Cleric"

Most importantly, bringing out your duplicate is now a bonus action that doesn't cost concentration making it way more useful in way more situations. They also added the ability at 6th level to swap places when you place the duplicate and for it to be able to give advantage to allies at later...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Monk"

A few thoughts on Shadow Monks. Overall I really like the changes here Losing Pass w/o a Trace is a bummer, but I wonder if that spell is going to get a nerf (making the loss not so bad) or possibly become a Ranger only spell (giving the Ranger a uniquely powerful spell) If there's one thing...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Monk"

The new monk has really knocked it out of the park. Took me a moment to realize that deflect attacks really just makes up for the lower AC of the Monk class in general (after all, high AC means negating damage from attacks as well). Can not wait to play this class! Also thinking about the...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

The this is the purposeful worsening of a product (typically an entertainment product) so that you can charge more for the better version (think Amazon Prime adding ads so they can sell a monthly subscription to get rid of the ads). I have no problem with a company that does this, as I won't...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook preview: "New Spells"

Per CritRole Stats, Heroes Feast was cast 3 times in Campaign 2, and only once so far in campaign 3. I did misremember how many times it was cast in campaign 1 (15 times over the 70 or so sessions they had access to it) and I think that led to Mercer making it more difficult to get the jewel...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook preview: "New Spells"

This is not correct. The parties in CR are constantly limited in their casting of Heroes Feast due to the difficulty in acquiring the material component. Mercer rarely allows them to purchase more than 1 at a time from any given major city (and sometimes requires a day or two to find one or...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Shape of "New Druid"

Yes, for my Ranger Beastmaster players that's a feature, not a bug. Easy enough for me to houserule in my games, but I suspect there will be quite a few players who will be disappointed.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Feats/Backgrounds/Species

While it may seem that way at lower levels, the math in the DMG makes it clear. Base AC for creating a monster CR 1/4-3 is 13. With a +0 to your main attack stat, you will hit 50% of the time, +2 60% and +3 65%. So it's clear that the game as designed requires only a +1 to you main attack...
