D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on bonus action potions?

Bonus action potions are a problem in games that give a lot of gold and shops with unlimited potions IMO. I don’t think many people’s games have both these things. A smaller but more common problem with bonus action potions is they effect maritals much more. Martials use many more bonus...

D&D General Does Cleric/Druid get 2x wis bonus to Arcana checks?

What spells from magic initiate would you recommend for the Druid/cleric. Shield Tasha’s Laughter Sleep Find Familiar I’ve even considered goodberry just to free up more spells prepared and the extra cast early is great. Any other ideas?

D&D 5E (2024) Which class is the most durable (level 1)?

Different armor formulas don’t stack. Its use it or the other. If mage armor granted +3 ac it would stack.

D&D General Does Cleric/Druid get 2x wis bonus to Arcana checks?

What about deliberately choosing your single class for its abilities? You’re not wrong for disliking that, I’m just curious about what the difference is for you.

D&D General Does Cleric/Druid get 2x wis bonus to Arcana checks?

Cleric 1/Druid X also frees druid prepared spells up for something other than healing word and cure wounds, while giving them command. This is good because Druids get many spells they want to prepare and not a ton of prepared spell for them.

D&D 5E (2014) Quick way to fix class balance if you don't use the assumed adventuring day

I like your suggestions, but one mistake I see people constantly make is trying to match resources instead of output per encounter. The issue is: As encounter difficulty increases due to number of enemies casters get stronger due to large AOE effects. As encounter difficulty increases due to...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2nd level casters are disappoint

Yea. There's also the daisy chain wake up which can make waking all enemies/allies net 0 additional actions lost when only having a single enemy left awake. It's also the major concern with Hypnotic Pattern. I mean it's not a wasted spell, as you cost N enemies each 1 action, but it's...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2nd level casters are disappoint

Kind of, but the waking is 0-1 net actions per enemy slept. Depends on initiative order of the creature slept and the one doing the waking.

D&D 5E (2024) Which class is the most durable (level 1)?

Right. I’d forgotten that prerequisite. More effective probably. More durable? That’s not what durability is. My argument was based on 12 temp hp from fiendish vigor making the temp hp from AoA pointless. How so?

D&D 5E (2024) Which class is the most durable (level 1)?

So to stop this pointless back and forth because there’s nothing inherently wrong with the idea of warlock using a strong familiar and staying out of the way. The only thing wrong is trying to force that concept into a durability discussion. It’s literally not what durability means in any sense...

D&D 5E (2024) Does Innate Sorcery grant True Strike advantage?

Especially since rogues get steady aim. -1 at 50% accuracy is a much bigger deal than -1 at 75% accuracy after advantage.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2nd level casters are disappoint

Woot!!! There it is! My bad. So yes. IMO Ranger is almost certainly the best level 2 class. EDIT: Take this back, it's warlock, but ranger is #2 IMO. Something like archery style, heavy crossbow, push mastery and entangle for combat. Goodberries from the night before. Well for quite a...

D&D 5E (2024) Which class is the most durable (level 1)?

Durable doesn't mean I substitute an army tank in my place to prove I'm durable. Da heck? Durably doesn't mean 'survive the longest rounds even when not being attacked'...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2nd level casters are disappoint

Yep, but at level 1 it's just not great, mostly because martials do enough damage now to wreck. Probably. More characters have decent hard control spells by level 5 or so. Makes locking enemies down much easier. This is true. Though Wizards/Druids with Summon Spells can hold their own in...

D&D 5E (2024) Which class is the most durable (level 1)?

@mellored Just wanted to add, I don't think anyone seriously considers being 100ft from combat hiding behind a wall a measure of character durability. It just doesn't align with the basic premise, despite being a perfectly fine tactic to employ in an actual game.

D&D 5E (2024) Which class is the most durable (level 1)?

Yea. That's fair. I don't presume it's always up precombat like the cast every minute cheese. I do assume that there will be opportunities to precast it, but that's assuming more exploration style encounters. One could presumably cast it before any conversation began and it might last till...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2nd level casters are disappoint

Any single target control spell is like that when you get multiple casters with it. We did similar at a bit lower levels with Tasha's Hideous Laughter and two 2014 Wizards. It became known as Tasha's Hideous Dragon Slayer. First Dragon we encountered proceeded to fail all the saves it made...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2nd level casters are disappoint

There's not really a way to spam it at level 1 unless your whole party has it or something. But yea, by CR 13 you should have enough slots to spam it.
