D&D General The best representations of the power fantasies D&D has had

For bards, what about the AD&D bard that appeared in (I think...) Best of Dragon Magazine 3? Perhaps Monte Cook's variant for 3e Book of Eldritch Might?

D&D General Explain Bounded Accuracy to Me (As if I Was Five)

Not a hundred, but around 30-40. Tried to use gnolls against my high-level PCs. They needed 17+ to hit the heroes, and did negligible damage when they did. I can definitely see how theoretically they are a threat, but in reality they were just somewhat annoying; really the whole fight was a...

    Don't look at me, I didn't say it's a flaw! It's a strategy.

D&D General D&D's Utter Dominance Is Good or Bad Because...

No, they are not mutually exclusive. I hope you don't think I was saying they were. They can be, though. Yeah, 5e is generally well-designed, but my point was simply that being a well-designed game isn't the main priority for the company. If fixing the flaws in the system would mean losing...

What is your favorite RPG book of all time?

ONE favourite? Yikes. I will say that, for all the problems/contradictions/craziness it had...I really liked the swing they took with the 3e Epic-Level Handbook.

D&D General D&D's Utter Dominance Is Good or Bad Because...

The bolded part is probably true if the goal is to make a really well-designed game. That is not the first priority of WotC as far as D&D is concerned; the first priority is to make a very popular game. And, ya gotta admit, it's working.

D&D General Explain Bounded Accuracy to Me (As if I Was Five)

Maybe they are 4e minions, or 4e swarms? :) I would hate to be a player in a game where my DM makes this encounter in 5e; that's a LOT of dice rolling where the goblins need 17+ to hit only to do piddly damage. I suppose mathematically it's technically a threat, but I will be dead of boredom...

D&D General Explain Bounded Accuracy to Me (As if I Was Five)

How many people play in games where no PC gets magic items, just out of curiosity?

    D&D 4E Let's Talk About 4E On Its Own Terms [+]

In the old Wizardry game 'Crusaders of the Dark Savant' monks would end up learning psionic spells... ...in unrelated news, I am old.

    D&D 4E Let's Talk About 4E On Its Own Terms [+]

With respect, I think the 4e Monk is far more than not non-functional; it is the best version of the class in all editions of the game, IMO.

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

Yeah, that's wild. There are some...interesting lives being lived out there. Just waiting for "4e ruined my marriage!"

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

Can you imagine blaming a game for your group breaking apart?? Not the words exchanged during a particular session or something, but just the game itself! Yeesh.

D&D General Should NPCs be built using the same rules as PCs?

I don't know why everyone's abilities in a fantasy world should be knowable.
