D&D shorts at least is entertaining and his mechanical insight is quite good. I dont really watch roll for combat.

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

I bailed in 2010 after Tarmogoyf and Jace the Mindsculptor. Buying house also contributed.

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

Yeah it was when my fighter player pointed out he had all these new options. But he was crap comparatively vs his 2E one. With worse magic items. That was the one who soloed the marilth, lich, dragon in 2E. In 3 rounds.

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

Hey I was a 3E player and I wanted fixed saves in a fixed 3.5. Hell started houseruling it near the end.

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

I played 2E this year and yeah. Main thing I've been tweaking over the years is high saves and a simple MR system similar to 2E (specifically 3.5 minis game). Bring back 3 saves and add elements of 4E (eg ref saves are dex or int) off you go.

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

Fix was in 4E and pre 3E. Scaling defenses. How in the 9 hells of Baator did they miss that one? I generally like what Mike writes about but sheesh. Probably cant remove them because tradition but have saves scale faster than DCs. Make spellcasters debuff to land them or revert to...

    D&D 5E (2024) Orin The Red (BG3) + Marilith+Rakshasa. Monster Design and I hate Bhaal.

No one's interested. My super Bhaal-Marilith lasted 4 or 5 rounds at level 12.

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

Im noticing thus effect. Downside as such the new tougher monsters aren't realky much better than 2024 counterpoint.

I dont put to much thought into WotC statement along those lines. I expected it and don't think theyre out right lying.

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

Make your own decisions. WotC themselves said Covid was the peak iirc. They made a new version there's one big obvious reason to do that. Hell you were a big offender on the old Amazon threads which is even less relevant than Bookscan which at least have hard numbers.

D&D General Has Tiny Hut actually affected your game? Or has it otherwise mattered?

Not really. I used dispel magic on it this year and dropped darkness on the PCs. Sharrans who could see in the dark. They stopped casting it in silly places after that.

I dint use it for concrete numbers of overall sales. More for trends and big selling items.

Bookscan included Amazon data at one point?

D&D General Ben Riggs interviews Fred Hicks and Cam Banks, then shares WotC sales data.

They were publishing AD&D and OD&D. Its about half what Paizo was doing 2012+.

This. Eventually people get sick of a game and drift off. No World of Warcraft 2. D&D requires more effort so I expect peopke/DMs to drift off faster.

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

They probably woukd have. 1E lasted 12 years, 2E 11. Basic 17 but with at least 3 revisions maybe 5 or 6. Bookscan indicated sales were down. Iirc WotC said something like Covid was peak sales.
