D&D General Charisma Checks gone Horribly Wrong - Can you Relate?

I don't expect any player to be as charismatic, intelligent, strong, or as beautiful as their character, but I'd like to see them put in a little effort in the role playing department. If a PC is trying to intimidate someone, then please say or do something in a menacing manner. If your...

AD&D 1E Snarf's Challenge: Was it Possible to Play 1e RAW? SHARE YOUR STORIES!

My group actually tried both weapon speed and weapon vs. AC values. We found weapon speed to be supremely ridiculous. Yeah, I suppose I can move a dagger more quickly than I can a spear, but if you have a spear and I come at you with a dagger you're going to have a chance to hit me before I...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Here’s my first logistical problems. This is the end of the stub of the tail that connects to the larger section of the tail that wraps around the base. When I tried connecting them, they did not fit at all, and since the model is so large, my usual solution of putting it in hot water to get...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Not a bridge I'm interesting in trying to cross right now. It seems like such a time sink and there are other skill areas I'm working on. I won't say I'll never do it, but probably not any time soon.

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Upon further reflection, I won't be painting the entire dragon in a metallic red because it'll just look ridiculous. It worked for the Archon Studio dragon because the entire thing is covered in scales, but this dragon really has a lot of what looks like exposed flesh to me. So that means one...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

My thumb is sore just thinking about it!

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I don't hate ammo in video games. I typically don't deal with ammo in table top RPGs beyond how many rounds one might have in a firearm.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I absolutely hate having to deal with breaking weapons in video games. It ruined one of the Zelda games for me and System Shock 2 wasn't made better by its inclusion.

They just don't make posters like they used to.

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

I think we can all agree this is the noblest of miniature painting goals! Here's my Ral Partha white whale. It's an ogre mage and it came with the option of holding a damsel in distress or a sword. A friend of mine had this one in the 1990s and I'd love to get my hands on it again. This was...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

I've settled on the Turbo Dorks metallics specifically because I want a bright, shining beacon of destruction glittering in the light. I expect to use an oil wash, which will dull it down a bit, and I may use some non-metallics for some of the fleshier areas of the body, tail, limbs, and of...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

It’s time for the big project. A few years ago, my FLGS had the Gargantuan Ancient Red Dragon from WizKids on sale for roughly $200. With some trepidation, I made the purchase primarily because I thought I'd kick myself years down the road if I did. I guess it was FOMO. I've placed a Reaper...

    D&D General Games Economies

I recently read through the 2nd Greyhawk box, and they do a great deal to explain the economy of the city. They discuss the city's role as a central trading hub, what goods go through the city, what raw materials are extracted from nearby mines, banking, and of course taxes.

Traveller: the iconic science fiction roleplaying game

I rolled up a ton of random characters and just about every single one would have been fun to play. One of my more memorable rolls ended up with a guy who had both the Steward and Knife skill at level 4 which I thought was an interesting skill combination. I only had one psychic but I rolled...
