    Midnight 2nd Edition

I'm not sure why people are saying that healing surges wouldn't work in Midnight. From what I can tell healing surges are not magical. It's a game mechanic trying to represent that when an attack is successful you aren't necessarily taking physical damage. It's the abstract nature of the D&D...

    Midnight 2nd Edition

If you do want to try this there are obviously some major compromises that will have to be made. But I would have to say that if you try converting anything from 3e to 4e you are going to have to make some major compromises. It would be a major overhaul and a lot of work but I wouldn't say...

    Wizard and spellbooks

According to the PHB, as written, it doesn't work like this. I know it can be changed to however I want, but I would've thought they might have been able to come up with something a little better. Litterally, the old spell vanishes from the spellbook and the new spell takes its place. This is...

    Wizard and spellbooks

But it is not a matter of just forgetting one. It is a matter of the Wizard puts a new spell in his spellbook and another spell strangely vanishes from the spellbook. That does not make it a use it or lose it kind of thing. I suppose the spellbook is "magical" and you could potentially say...

    Wizard and spellbooks

I have to say this is bugging me as well. The spell simply vanishes from the book? What? If you say that the newer spell builds on the lower level one it kind of makes sense but what if you cannot see any sort of relation between the spells? I know this is fluff but I'd still like it to...

    Warlocks

It's strange that these are part of your class features, yet other classes are not built this way. I know Warlocks get other class features but in some ways I expected a more homogenous style of class structure. I guess the same goes for Clerics and Paladins where they have some class features...

    Warlocks

I'm slightly confused and just looking for a little clarification. With Warlocks, your two 1st level at-will attack powers are predetermined by 1) You gain Eldritch Blast as a class power. 2) Your choice of your Pact (which is a class power.) That's it, there are your two 1st level at-will...

Info on the Wizard (Looked at the book today)

Wasn't that in one of the early previews (against Goblins at a farm house) where the Wizard used his staff against the ground, did some damage and pushed some of the goblins back a few spaces.

    Getting healing right

Since this is an exception based rules system this may disappoint you. Remember, exception rules trump general rules.

So any bets when the first books will show up?

keterys, I'm close to the North Shore as well. The closest gaming store I know of is The Toy Soldier in Amesbury. I've never been there and they seem more like a comic and wargaming store but you never know. Newburyport is the probably the furthest you could get away from Boston on the...

    KotS with 4 PCs

I have only 3 players to work with so I am curious too. I believe I have seen that 4 minions can be removed or one non-minion of the appropriate level per character missing from the party. It will take a little tweaking but I am hoping that it really won't be that involved.

Defenders handing out free attacks (to opponents)

Wouldn't the purpose be to keep the an opponent locked in combat with the defender instead of bypassing them? Just like Marking?

Defenders handing out free attacks (to opponents)

Interesting. What might it be called? Locked in Combat? I haven't been able to play any of 4e yet but Marking to me seems to be not quite right. I like your thinking and will keep this in mind when I get the opportunity to play 4e.

Excerpt: Minions. Go forth mine minions! Bring havoc with your 1 hp [merged]

This I just don't get. Is Basic D&D D&D? Is AD&D D&D? Is anything that has houserules D&D? Is 2E or 3E D&D? Minions seem to me to be a very good mechanic for those of us who do not want to divide our attention to a lot of little notekeeping and instead concentrate on the story and the...

    Pronounciation of Justiciar

Yes, I know. And I did explicitly state it was only my opinion but I was surprised that so many were willing to go "OK, it is pronounced that way, even if it does sound a little off, I guess I'll stick with that." Sure, there is an "offical" pronounciation but I certainly do not HAVE to...
