D&D 5E (2014) What could 5E do to make wealth worthwhile?

Maybe wealth and things to spend money on needs to be determined at the start of the campaign. If players aren't interested in anything but small adventures or single on-going adventure path with little downtime then it might be a little harder. If the party is asked for long-term goals then...

D&D General The blood war can finally end!

I recall from planescape torment there was green steel that allowed you to overcome damage resistance (maybe it was treated as a +1 weapon but without the bonus), it was mined in the lower planes so the various foot soldiers were likely equipped with it, though maybe more for the mercenaries...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Marilith Is Far More Bestial In 2025

I don't hate it, but I still prefer the older versions.

D&D 5E (2014) What could 5E do to make wealth worthwhile?

I remember old dragon magazines mentioning this (though it was for NPCs) advancing by gaining xp but it was very slow, you need that practical application that comes through firled work (ie, adventuring) to really get the best experience. I don't think it's a bad idea, and could be used when you...

D&D General Which herbs must be in your fantasy game?

I'm a lot more basic with my herbalism in dnd. I have common, uncommon, and rare herbs for most things and then maybe a few uniques (things like black lotus, which probably doesn't count as a herb but is used in a similar way). Been a while, but I think that 10 common hebs were able to make the...

D&D General Feats are in. What is the current feel about multiclassing?

I put no restrictions on it in my games. If someone wanted to pick up 1 level of every class they can do that. I'd like there to be story reasons but I don't enforce story readings for multiclassing.

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

My post was talking about base classes, not subclasses.

D&D 5E (2014) What could 5E do to make wealth worthwhile?

From memory it was a good system, you didn't even bother rolling for incidental stuff and you maybe dropped a rank if you had to make a big purchase which differed depending on your wealth rank.

D&D 5E (2014) What could 5E do to make wealth worthwhile?

In games I've been in, I guess it still mattered, but we used it for bribes or to cover costs for things. I never really cared about it because I didn't have much else to spend it on so basically just threw it at problems.

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

Yeah, I've always felt that if you have a paladin on your team, you're making the save. Positioning can affect that but if you're in the aura, you'll be fine.

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

That sounds cool as it made the fighter someone to be feared as they're literally indomitable. Fits with the super heroics of 5e.

D&D 5E (2024) Youre All Wrong. Its Not A Martial vs Caster Situation

Given that 1e fighters likely had plenty of magic bonuses to their saves (from magic armour or rings), that 20th level fighter was probably only failing on a roll of 1.

D&D 5E (2024) Magic Missile is saved! Hooray!

I think the main reason why people jumped on the one roll for all the missiles was partially (mostly?) about the invoker adding their Int bonus to the damage for all the missiles with empowered evocation. A 20 Intelligence wizard dealing 7-10 damage per missile instead of 2-5 is fairly impressive.

    D&D 5E (2024) Running A 3.0 Adventure in 5.5

I ran some thunder rift modules in 5e, tended to just use a 1 to 1 conversion between editions and just used some other stats that were similar in the old dnd modules to other creatures. For instance the newts in knight of newts became goblins, the water elemental remained a water elemental. I...

D&D 5E (2024) Magic Missile is saved! Hooray!

I actually quite like the idea of magic missile being a concentration breaker forcing multiple rolls (I've never actually run it that way but would be willing to give it a go if I ever run a 5e game again). It also gives another good reason for the development of the shield spell as a...

EN World What you thought a thread title said.

Not sure the players would be staying awake for that one.

D&D 5E (2024) Magic Missile is saved! Hooray!

When you really need to hot, magic missile is great, especially if the DM has been highlighting how hurt enemies are, gives you a good target to attempt to finish off with MM.

D&D 5E (2024) Magic Missile is saved! Hooray!

My d4 problem is that I have some which you read from the top and others that you read from the bottom and sometimes they all get used together which can mean working out what the results are a bit of a nightmare.

D&D 5E (2024) Magic Missile is saved! Hooray!

I'm not sure it was updated once it was decided to revise the game, but the magic missile tweet had been around for quite a while before the last update. I was like you and felt it must have been in there, I've checked a couple of times since. I believe that Crawford also followed that tweet...

D&D 5E (2024) Magic Missile is saved! Hooray!

To be fair, Crawford's interpretation never made it into official use, it was just a tweet. I don't believe it was even added to sage advice.
