Yeah, my main complaint with the rules too.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

So, I finally heard back from Monte Cook Games. There you go. They think the OGL was meant for that behavior and it's totally normal. Even though I can only think of like two or three publishers that use the OGL this way. Nothing to see here, move along.

Here They Are! Your 10 Most Anticipated TTRPGs For 2024!

Having Cthulhu adventures in imperial Rome seems like a such niche thing to have two games for. Have we reached peak Cthulhu saturation? Probably not until we see the 2D20 version of the Cthulhu Jane Austin simulator.

    General DCC RPG thread

Speaking as a dude who's been playing DCC RPG since launch I find it great that they are reprinting these titles with added stuff. But, speaking as somebody who's been playing since launch and backed the original campaigns for Purple Planet and the original Grimtooth collection it is a little...

D&D 5E (2014) MCDM to revisit the Illrigger.

I doubt that would happen. I mean, if that were true, there would be hundreds of OSR subforums, but there aren't. If the new MCDM is not broadly compatible with 5e (which it may not be) then it would be its own thing anyway.

Dune Messiah Movie may be greenlit.

I would be really, really shocked if they made any movies past Messiah. They get weird beyond that book, like way more weird than I think WB would be willing to gamble 300 million bucks on.

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

Right, but look at it this way. Line gotta go up. It isn't enough to make some money. You must exponentially grow forever. What's taking food off of a family's table compared to that?

I'm not sure. Let's circle back and let's schedule a time to meet on that.

    D&D 5E (2024) How to import "race" flavor into D&D 2024 inclusively

I like PF2's approach to this. Every few levels you get to choose from little bonuses or feats that in addition to making your dwarf dwarfier as they level, your dwarf can also be a dwarfier dwarf in a completely different way than another dwarf at the same table.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Yep, unfortunately. Exactly. You'd need to put out a book containing their "Product Identity" mechanics and then hope they do something about it to give you any "damages" to grant standing. Part of the reason it would never happen. Also true. Most people never read the OGL statements and other...

D&D General io9: 2023 Should Have Been D&D's Best Year, Until It Wasn't

Well, the D&D movie didn't make any money, but I doubt that factored into this decision. It always baffles me when large corporations that are active in multiple sectors make cuts in the sectors that are their most profitable. "I know I'll cut the workforce in the part of our business that's...

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

That remains to be seen. I think most people's reading of the OGL is that you aren't supposed to just be able to declare anything you want to be product identity. That's meant for commonly understood IP type stuff like names, places etc. I think the issue here is that it's not worthwhile for...

Pathfinder 2E By prohibiting ORC licensing on Pathfinder/Starfinder Infinite, Paizo is now a step closer to WotC's walled garden approach with dmsguild

Surprising no one they never responded. It's really dissapointing to see this behavior from people who've built their careers and business on open gaming content. Content derived from literal decades of prior work and then to give nothing back. That's absolutely parasitic. As has been pointed...

Shadowrun 1st Edition To Be Reprinted

Fair point, I remember seeing it in Miniature Market and Gamenerdz clearance sales, but maybe that was a couple years back. This came out in 2017 and they were floating around for cheap for a long time. Though, looking on Ebay I still see sellers selling them for $35 now.

Shadowrun 1st Edition To Be Reprinted

To be clear, I'm referring to which edition of the WEG Star Wars they reprinted. Not other Star Wars games entirely. I'm stating that that there would have been far more interest in the reprint if they had chosen to reprint second edition or revised from the WEG version.

Shadowrun 1st Edition To Be Reprinted

I wish your case was more common. If it had been a commercial sales success we may have seen reprints of Second or Revised and I would have loved that.

Shadowrun 1st Edition To Be Reprinted

Yeah, agreed. This will go about as well as FFG's reprint of the 1st edition of WEG Star Wars. That is still in clearance sales today. Nobody wanted that edition. Same thing here. If this were a reprint of 2e? I think people would be all over it.
