One thing with "Power Lunch" is that the PCs will be presumed to be modern earth humans. Is there a reason in Shadowdark to reconsider that? Does Shadowdark lose anything in play by limited species to human?

Even if I grant that the encounter math works out in a fun way, I don't think 5E supports dungeon play in a way I like otherwise. But I am glad it works so well for you!

I'm not sure I see how 5E is especially dungeon focused. It is certainly heroic fantasy focused, and you can do that in a dungeon, but what rules in 5E make it hardcoded for dungeon play?
