    General video game discussion

I mean, I've been singing the praises of both Blue Prince and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in this and the other thread and as far as I can tell they both in the Steam sale. Both are GOTY candidates (and the latter is the clear frontrunner right now). Not new, but Control is also included and is...

    Congrats To 2025's ENnie Nominees!

There's a couple of factors, as far as I can see: First, and I think the most important, is the available design space. When there were a handful or even a few dozen TTRPGs there was plenty of design space for a game system to be a "toolbox and some broad guidelines" and be popular and...

Phase 5 of the MCU is over

Yeah, looking at that list I can say that I only actually saw one of them: The Marvels, which I thought it was an absolutely blast. I do want to check out the Thunderbolts any eventually Guardians 3 but very little else in the MCU (including the TV shows) holds very little appeal anymore. I am...

    Video Games You Wish Existed

I would love a newer Magic: The Gathering game with a single-player mode; I loved the classic and it would be a great way to get back into the game since it's changed so much from (the last expansion I bought was Weatherlight)

    Congrats To 2025's ENnie Nominees!

I have been meaning to check out Triangle Agency for some time now. As a fan of Control (and Alan Wake 2) I've been super pumped to get to play a Federal Bureau of Control/SPC-style game. Nice to see it nominated for so many awards!

We're reaching the end of the AAA-studio system as it buckles under its weight and the AA and indie studios continue to run laps around them producing higher quality games at a fraction of the cost and much higher overall job satisfaction.

    Optimization and optimizers...

Well, I was responding to someone talking about poor balance in what, I think at least at the time, was a reference to 5e. I agree that 5e is the most balanced version of D&D. Especially the 2024 version. That's a really low bar, and one it doesn't clear by a lot, but I definitely think it's...

What do you want him to say? The man has a voracious appetite for set dressing.

    Civilizations, RANKED!

Well, you've already discovered the one thing Civ VI definitively has over its predecessors: you can play it on the go. If you compare it to Civ IV one-to-one you'll walk away disheartened, but if you have that itch for "one... more... turn...", and if you're a Civ fan you absolutely do, it's...

    Optimization and optimizers...

I suppose you have a point there. Far be it for me to badwrongfun somebody else. It's an approach to TTRPGs that is, frankly alien to me, and runs counter to the spirit what I feel the potential of the genre, but I also can't deny that it has a major role in the history of the genre

Planescape Which Planescape faction do you most closely identify with?

I mean, definitely the Revolutionary League, with shades of Bleak Cabal.

That's entirely fair. But then, the same is also true for you.
