    D&D 5E (2014) Starting the realms

No there's no directly equivalent region like Pathfinder's Mwangi Expanse. Chult would be closest.

D&D 5E (2014) Escapist article on SCAG is Brutal.

As DM I find the god's info extremely useful because for once it covers worshipers and clergy, not the god's themselves. Little tidbits will be getting sprinkled throughout a lot of my adventures as a result.

    D&D 5E (2014) Manacled by Thieves' Tools

I'd ask their bonus and then adjudicate. If they've got 11 Dex and aren't proficient then they can break easy locks. If they're extremely dexterous (Dex 20) they can break medium locks. If they're proficient and dexterous then you're likely looking at level 13 to be able to break hard locks...

    D&D 5E (2014) Everyone has Darkvision - too generous?

I find that low light vision just never gets used in Pathfinder except when someone finally says "does anyone know if I can see it?" And the GM either says yes or no in an arbitrary way with no-one caring enough to look up the rules. I'd either do one of two things: 1) Remove Darkvision for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legendary issues

I really like legendary and lair actions. I would definitely allow legendary actions to be taken outside of combat (actions are really only quantified as such in combat, IMO). Are there any rules that say legendary actions can't be taken outside of combat?

    D&D 5E (2014) New 5th edition Adventure: Baleful Coven (6th level)

Definitely. It is kept fairly vague so that GMs can pick up this module and use it without very much (if any) prior planning. Oh definitely. So the adventure has the 3 villains all come together sometime after the players did the crime that bothered them. So in your story you could have one of...

    D&D 5E (2014) New 5th edition Adventure: Baleful Coven (6th level)

The Baleful Coven is an adventure for 6th or 7th-level characters that brings deadly danger to your heroes as they learn that their crusading heroics sometimes come with a price. Whenever adventurers toast their success after a hard-fought victory, their boots are soiled with the spilled...

    D&D 5E (2014) Help with 5E Monster Effectiveness

I ran an adventure the other day and the combats only featured kobolds. It began with the players on a merchant's train going along a road in a forest. One player's passive perception was high enough to see kobolds along the side of the road. They were able to give a warning shout in time for...

D&D 5E (2014) Enforcing theme/structure by saying NO to players

I am also one of those players and I'd be happy if you verbally told me the information. However I'd want to know the region we're starting in, what races are located there, what their place and culture is, their regional (and racial) history and what gods are worshiped by those who live in the...

D&D 5E (2014) I just don't see why they even bothered with the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide.

Sounds like you were the target audience. Good to hear that it's resonating with those it was targeted at.

D&D 5E (2014) I just don't see why they even bothered with the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide.

Nor was I. My first experience was running Keep on the Shadowfell for 4e for an online group. I bought not only Keep on the Shadowfell but the original core pack as well. All from Amazon. Oh, and I started putting together a homebrew world before I got the books.

D&D 5E (2014) Escapist article on SCAG is Brutal.

This presupposes that their adventures have been featuring original stories thus far. I personally don't know (I know next to nothing about pre-4e adventures) but I know a number of people have complained about them simply being rehashes of previous adventures. So they could have plans up until...

D&D 5E (2014) Escapist article on SCAG is Brutal.

Mike said they had storylines planned up until 2018. As we saw in the non-cancellation (if only because it was never technically announced) of the Elemental Evil Adventurer's Guide their non-adventure plans can be quite a bit up in the air and change at a moment's notice.

D&D 5E (2014) I just don't see why they even bothered with the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide.

I haven't finished reading mine yet, but I've quite liked what I've read so far. I am happy with my purchase as I have new ideas for adventures and campaigns that I would not have otherwise had. Quite possibly nothing. If the book sells poorly then we more than likely won't get a book in this...

D&D 5E (2014) Designer apathy and sunk costs, The reason the sorcerer is doomed to uncanny valley one-trick-ponieness.

This post seems to have been missed. In all seriousness, is this what you want from the sorcerer?

Mike Schley's MASSIVE Forgotten Realms Map From SCAG!

It's quite possible it will be released at a lower resolution. Regardless I doubt they'll release one without labels.

Unearthed Arcana Light, Dark, Underdark - November's Unearthed Arcana

Ed Greenwood described a site with plenty of beholders that a first level party could easily survive (let's go with 8). All of the beholders were in stasis with no mechanism to spontaneously wake up. It's nowhere near relevant, but this thread reminded me of that.

Mike Schley's MASSIVE Forgotten Realms Map From SCAG!

The more I look at this map the more I realize it's far superior to the 3e/4e free maps.

I also gave them the shape water cantrip.
