New DM Quest Rewards available on DM's Guild

The better way to counter min/maxers is not the DM being a bad DM by acting through fiat. DMs need to buck up and learn how to min/max the resources they have available. First thing I do in any mod is look for a spell caster. If there is one (almost always is) and I know some (one or more) of...

D&D 5E (2014) [GUIDE] My Word Is My Sword: The Paladin Guide

Only push on Lightning Damage (level 6), not Thunder. So that doesn't work.

What sort of character will you build for Curse of Strahd?

Which cancels multiattack, so that's still generally going to be fine. Plus, most enemies ranged is far weaker than their melee.

What sort of character will you build for Curse of Strahd?

Character takes Mobile feat, Cunning Action rogue, Swashbuckler, whatever. Runs up, BBs the enemy, Disengage and move back out of enemy range. Sure you can just not move, but then your just watching the enemy die.

What sort of character will you build for Curse of Strahd?

Deep Gnome Necromancer Wizard I'm going to beat Strahd at his own game.

D&D 5E (2014) [GUIDE] My Word Is My Sword: The Paladin Guide

Yes. The only reason the combo isn't better is that it uses your action and gives the enemy 2 saves before you get to swing at them. Also, it only works on "humanoids" which is a fairly small category of enemies. However, 3+ level dips into Sorc this gets significantly better because you can...

    Bard (Lore) Summoner

A Warlock dip is great for most builds, just not for this one. You'll never have Hex up because summoning (besides Undead and Find Steed) require concentration. 1st level spell slots don't grant you anything for summoning because the only good 1st level summon spell is a ritual anyways. Far...

    Bard (Lore) Summoner

That's actually pretty solid. Any summoner that wants to be really effective needs to pickup Find Steed and that's probably the best way of doing it. Although technically, the best summoning class in the game is still a combo of Necromancer/Paladin (Crusader's Mant + Auras). Undead are the...

New ALPG (and ALDMG) have dropped!

It doesn't have Pixies, which was literally the only problem the entire time. Should allow the SRD so several conjuration spells (and thus entire play styles) can stop sucking as options.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighter/cleric multi-classing-where to go?

The benefits of Cleric are both offensive and defensive. Literally so for Guidance (more initiative is always better), Bless (Saves + attack), Divine Favor, Healing Word = more allies to do damage, etc.

New ALPG (and ALDMG) have dropped!

"The character’s eyes melt away, leaving empty sockets. He or she has disadvantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks, but gains blindsight out to a range of 60 feet. The character is blind beyond this distance." This is waaaaay overpowered and should be rethought. Otherwise a lot of tactics just...

Rolled In-Order Scores: Rogue or Cleric?

Honestly, if you're committed to those stats, I would go with a Monk build. Human Variant to get Toughness at level 1 to make up for your crappy Con. Boost Dex and Wis and you've got a pretty strong Monk.

    Errata incoming! (Haunted One background)

Kalani's statement is still correct even as against my statement. Mine is the general rule, kalani gets slightly more specific, and then even more specific is that certain options in particular are banned (Bird people, Winged Teifling, etc).

    Errata incoming! (Haunted One background)

Yeah, no, you're wrong again. I get that you enjoy being that DM, but AL is explicit that almost all instances of character creation that PHB/other source call out for DM approval must be allowed. All the variant races in the SCAG (besides Winged Tiefling, etc), Feats, etc. call out for DM...

Brew Challenge: Max single target, single round damage

Good point. Still no Hex + Haste though. By the way, the Assassin is the most overplayed/overrated archetype in the game. I've seen the auto-crit trigger maybe a half-dozen times in actual play.

Brew Challenge: Max single target, single round damage

You also can't Concentrate on Hex and Haste at the same time. So further drop your damage. You also don't get a Bonus attack unless you crit, which is far from guaranteed.

    Barbarian AC

You should get your Dex to 14, it's just that taking Res (Dex) isn't the best way to do it, especially considering that you can only take that feat once. As a barbarian you are far more susceptible to Wisdom saves than Dex ones. By taking Res (Wis) and then next ASI boosting Dex and Wis, you...

    Necromancy and AL

Except when you finally ignore the AL rules for long enough, and a player is knowledgeable enough to know that you are, they can and should report you to the store organizer, LC, RC, etc up the chain to get your ability to DM AL games removed. Or at least the store that you DM out of, if you...

    Barbarian AC

Getting Resiliency (Wisdom) is effective at every level. Take Res (Wis) for first ASI, then bump Dex +1, Wis +1 for 2nd ASI.

    Necromancy and AL

Damn, that sounds amazingly fun. But then again I'm a huge fan of Wild Magic surges so maybe that bit of chaoticness is just enticing. This gets even better when you start using Create Undead, etc.
