D&D General Ben Riggs interviews Fred Hicks and Cam Banks, then shares WotC sales data.

I would say so at this point. For them to change the current version has to fail. Probably pretty badly. That’s def not good for many of the folks at WotC.

Daggerheart, Shadowdwrk, even A5E is much more than a knockoff! H*ck even Dungeon World 2 is coming! Mothership and Mörk Borg and Epic Bastionland and Drawsteel and etc etc. Finally we are in a place where we have steady, even strong, growth in the hobby with a big corp that finally...

D&D General Ben Riggs interviews Fred Hicks and Cam Banks, then shares WotC sales data.

It’s a nice familiar place for people to find and re-find and spread the hobby. It also in no way stifles innovation in this hobby. In fact I might argue that it encourages it.

Nah. I’m good. What’s more, at this point, I think it’s a good thing for the hobby.

I was at the panel, I was one of two who still played AD&D at the panel. Talking to some of the folks in the audience it did seem to me, whatever they were using, they all seemed interested in the idea of incorporating other stuff from other versions of 5e.

OSR Old School Essentials 2026 update

I don’t disagree with you either. I wish they’d done this originally. Still I think they have to do this. It’s confusing to me suggesting to folks what to pick up.

I do think there are a sizable group of people sticking with 5e 2014, I think more than WotC would like. Maybe. And there are a lot of 2014 PHBs out there. Still as far as I can tell 2024 is doing ok. We’ll see longer term, especially as peoples current campaigns end. I don’t think 2024 PHB...

Reposting this here instead of quoting. It’s a WotC restatement and I think some folk are missing it. If it spent change your mind that’s fine. But it’s not 2024 doing better than 2014 it’s …. First month of new PHB > first 2 full years of the 2014 PHB. Also in the panel Ben had more data by...

I’ve heard similar things from other stores in other regions.

Oh how soon people forget. 5e sold so well in 2014 that WotC sold out of years (a year?) of PHBs in months. They stopped the printing of the DMG so they could emergency print mor PHBs. They thought something was wrong. It is true that those sales, as amazing as they were, are probably a...

Somewhere someone at WotC posted it sold more in its first months than the first year of 2014, or something like that.

Did you know how much of the pie was DDI in 2013? No? That's new. And rather important given DDB today.
