The two sides do seem pretty diametrically opposed. I know some have suggested otherwise, but personally I find it hard to believe that, for any given product, it doesn't have to be one way or the other. And if what one side wants actively harms what the other wants, conflict is likely.

Keep in mind this thread is not specifically about how great the kind of presentation of information you prefer is. It's a discussion of the two primary philosophies of adventure-writing. The topic invites differing points of view. Not really sigh-worthy IMO.

Presenting those products the way you prefer would result in a significant loss of detail and general lore, information I value greatly. Your way actively removes material I want, and how valuable the format change would be is just as subjective as how valuable the lost lore would be.

Not sure what your problem is here. Throwing a little ambiguity into the lore allows more space for alternate interpretations.

Maybe it's not directly for the PCs? Perhaps it's for the GM to provide context to their narration of the setting and characters? Setting information is common in published adventures anyway, not all of it pertaining directly to the adventure at hand, and is considered a selling point. Hardly...

I'd love to see a depiction of the Earth-Romulan War. Or the period between the founding of the Federation and Discovery. Or the Lost Era between the Classic Films and TNG. Or the last couple decades before Picard. Lots of options.

There are many types of pleasure one can get from reading a book. Enjoying the writing is one. Interest in the content, use as a reference on a subject of interest, and art appreciation are a few others.
