(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 1

Jacked noted the servant's movement out of the corner of his eye, quickly pivoted while raising Darling, and fired. "Fool," he muttered. Then, more loudly so the others could hear, "The rest of you stay put! We'll have none of that." Looking at Valda and Quinn, he mouthed ~watch my back~...

(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 1

Jack lowered his crossbow but still kept it loaded as Bible spoke in giantish to the stone giant. While he didn't understand what they were saying, he got the gist of it, and appreciated the tact Bible was taking. Nevertheless, he kept one eye on the other giants and exits to make sure no one...

Project Sigil 90% Of D&D’s Project Sigil Team Laid Off

IMO, Sigil was never a good idea. VTT’s have to strike the right balance of being accessible on many types of devices, intuitive and easy to set up and run, and importantly, does not distract from the adventure itself. From what I saw, Sigil failed to achieve most, if not all these aspects.

D&D General How do you honor fallen friends in your games?

Maybe name a tavern or inn after him. A place the PCs can go to unwind between excursions. He could be a legendary hero the pub is named after, where the patrons regularly toast his name for good luck before setting off on an adventure.

    How would YOU change Shadowdark?

Also if running a gauntlet, I like using the background and starting equipment tables from DCC. Bring on the gongfarmers!

    How would YOU change Shadowdark?

I love the favor of DCC, and many of the rules that come with it, but never been a fan of the funky dice. I’ve been thinking of more ways to integrate some DCC elements into SD, and spellburn + magic item spells from DCC are absolutely great ideas.

Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

I'd like: 1. Martial: Barbarian that has advantage on strength checks, can climb at full speed, unarmored defense, and maybe a "surrounded by foes" ability (like cleave). 2. Caster: Something like an artificer - can cast spells through the use of sigils and "artifacts" that can have...

Describe your last rpg session in 5 words

    Sworn oaths, made terrible alliances.

    How would YOU change Shadowdark?

That is really a subjective question and depends on your taste. What I find to be “better” you might not like at all. For me, Shadowdark takes the approach of a B/X game in terms of power levels and hangs it on a very stripped down 5e chassis, including the Advantage/Disadvantage mechanic and...

    How would YOU change Shadowdark?

There’s also a “Hunter Mode” where players get XP = 1/2 a monsters level.

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

That’s exactly the plan for our group. Timing should be perfect - going through Age of Worms right now using 2024 5e and should wrap up by then. Not to derail the thread, but we can’t get over how fiddly 5e has become. The fighter in particular has so many options and things to remember- can...

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

An alternative xp approach (Hunter Mode) is to award half a monster’s level as experience points (instead of treasure).

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

Yep, all good changes if you want a more heroic campaign. I love how easy it is to tinker with the system like this. For example, I don’t like the halfling ability to turn invisible (feels too magical), so changed that so they start the day with 1d4 luck tokens. Also giving a luck token on...

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

A bit more than that. They typically include a sentence or two regarding the creature’s personality or goals, as well as important room elements. EDIT: see the post above this one! A big part of Shadowdark are random tables to handle everything from encounter types to reactions. There’s also...

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

The run the gamut. Lots on dungeons, but also city based adventures and (somewhat the focus of this KS), hex crawls/wilderness. There are no “adventure paths” ala 5e that I’m aware of. The adventures go for a minimalist design. Key elements are given, kind of similar to 1e modules but way...

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

IMO, the Slipcase pledge level is fantastic, especially if you missed out on the first three zines like I did. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/shadowdarkrpg/western-reaches?ref=backertracker

Shadowdark Arcane Library Western Reaches KS

Just backed the slipcase level. I never got the first three zines, so definitely the one for me. Only downside? Having to wait until December-ish to get my hands on it. Ps - now over $600k USD. Wow.
