D&D General DMing for 20+ Players

Sounds like some of the Epic events at the local convention over the years. A couple have been Adventure League (AL) games and tables of different tiers taking on various parts of the adventure. There was not a lot of crossover in some of these. One adventure had different tables in the...

    RPG Evolution: Weight, What?

Well of course, he was the favorite DMNPC. I remember having the lead figure of him with Sam and Frodo from Grenadier I believe.

    RPG Evolution: Weight, What?

I thought they left the pony with the octopus monster at the entrance to the mines. The rest of them that had to carry al that stuff did not seem to be any more encumbered because of it.

What's Your Idea of a Party?

Like going to Plymouth Plantation and hearing them speak in the old tongue 1600s English. If you ka-no you ka-no how to pronounce things.

    RPG Evolution: Weight, What?

The 15 minute per mile pace of road marching is hard to keep for more than a couple hours. 20 minutes is more the average for normal people and 30 minutes is more under load with people of mixed abilities to keep together. The Army standard was 3 hours to march 12 miles with 35lb pack. People...

    Book cover ink removal?

There might be something with tracing over it with a dry erase marker. It might just be fore permanent marker on a dry erase board. I also wonder if a Mr Clean sponge will work- they work on all sorts of stuff.

King Kubrick: Ranking Stanley's Best Films

Platoon and FMJ are both quoted a lot. Not so much Hamburger Hill. There is the way it ought to be... And the way it is.

D&D General What is your favorite d&d world's one unique thing.

I did like Nentir Vale, not that I know much of the rest of the world that it was in. I liked the gritty feeling and no large cities to get all sorts of things from. The points of light in a hostile world. I tend to play in the realms and it is fine, but not getting the same feel.

RPG Duets Best Practices and Pitfalls?

When my son first started to play we had a campaign where he had the main character and I ran the sidekick NPC that followed his lead. It was clear that the NPC was going to follow what the PC wanted to do and was there to help with combats and skills to search and such to help with more than...

D&D 5E (2024) How do you run an open table game in D&D '24?

I wonder if a megadungeon would be better. A bit like what Gary did with Castle Grayhawk. You can still have random groups play and check out a few/several rooms each time and always just return to the safe place at the end of the night. You could have different levels of the dungeon for...

D&D 5E (2024) How do you run an open table game in D&D '24?

Thank you for trying to spread the game to new players. Hopefully some will become DMs themselves and the payoff will become something you can spread into a true west marches game, maybe letting you be a player once in a while. I also think if you are doing the work, you get to choose the...

    D&D General Onboarding a newbie

I have run things like a convention and have all pre-made PCs. The whole table could pick from several and there was a few left over. It is a trial to see if they like it and want to play more. Maybe most things are pre-made and some options like name and race can be left to choose. It might...

D&D 5E (2024) Tyranny of Dragons 10 year anniversary Beadle and Grimm’s Legendary box set

Does this mean that there is nothing cool coming out next year? I mean that they must get a heads up or something from Wizards with what the line up is.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Bastions

I like the spending gold idea to speed things up. This mirrors real world rich people getting things by spending gold. I'm still not a fan of bastions just being the player side and the DM should not interfere. My group lets me do anything I want to it though and sometimes things happen.

D&D General How to Make Travel Meaningful and Interesting

I think some depends on what I have planned or how much real-world time I have. If I want/need the party to be someplace I might just handwave things. I tend to have something along the road. Last time the party traveled from Westbridge to Waterdeep they tended to wander about. There was a...

D&D General Odd Speak with Dead Question

I say, good try but no. A door is a piece of a tree like trying to cast the spell on a leg of a dead corpse without having the skull. I get the other spells like talking to a fish and wanting to have a normal conversation with it or a plant and wanting a flower to tell the difference...
