D&D General 5e System Redesign through New Classes and Setting. A Thought Experiment.

not if the game is not even there because it was not released / finished yet, as someone mentioned… that is obviously true

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

if you fight for this tooth and nail, then feel free to leave. If you try to squeeze some in whenever it makes sense, that is a different matter I am not sure the 'preferences of their characters' bit is true. It would be true if you had all the time in the world, but if you just infiltrated...

D&D General 5e System Redesign through New Classes and Setting. A Thought Experiment.

what example? and I am not sure they have a preferred playstyle, that kinda requires being aware of more than one 2027 is too early, even if 5.5 were tanking, and if it did, I’d hope WotC would be smart enough to not push out another minor tweak after the last one sank so fast. I doubt we...

D&D General 5e System Redesign through New Classes and Setting. A Thought Experiment.

started in 1984 or so, but did not play it consistently and dropped out entirely sometime before 3e, only found my way back during 5e not sure how important they really are, or how many of the new players even see them as such Didn’t care for them in the 80s, don’t care for them now. They are...

D&D General 5e System Redesign through New Classes and Setting. A Thought Experiment.

I don’t really care what it did at gencon, for one that might have been too early for it, for another whether I like a game or not is not tied to how well it does there yeah, the only game that sells is 5e, everyone else is doomed to fail, pretty bleak picture you are painting there I am fine...

D&D General 5e System Redesign through New Classes and Setting. A Thought Experiment.

is that Nimble 5e? Anime 5e (haven’t heard of that…)? I am glad DS! is trying to tackle them, WotC just entirely dropped the ball with 2024 as far as I am concerned curious what he will come up with, by and large I like what he is saying

D&D General Has 5e become noise?

what is this counting? Sound too high for Kickstarters, does it include DTRPG and DMsGuild titles?

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

most encounters aren’t hordes of weak minions, the encounters in the books are basically the same, use the new version of the monsters and chances are the encounter is at least as well balanced as the original 2014 one

I am not so sure about that…

D&D General Has 5e become noise?

Yes, it is about general interest, and a good measure of that is profit (or at least revenue). The question is not about a single person, it necessarily is about the aggregate / general interest

this is the problem right here, it has a relatively easy fix too ;)

D&D General Has 5e become noise?

you never cared for 5e to begin with, so not sure how much of a change that is… we will only know that we are past the peak once we are well past it. I think we might be around peak, but I am not expecting a steep decline anytime soon, so a few months will not make a difference. As to 5e...

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

ah, I see, I am looking at different rules than you do ;) Googled it and used the link, which is from 2014 rules https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/basic-rules-2014/adventuring?srsltid=AfmBOoo0pf5Eaumw0LQ9GghEfGqqRGuZN2DY-QpsAZ9HwFuYT5lzne9t#LongRest The full text is “A long rest is a...

that is not what the rules say, am I missing something? Are you thinking of short rests? yeah, not everyone needs to, some people are ok with playing with a suboptimal strategic approach ;) I wish the game would encourage it more rather than actually discourage it through the rules, see Draw Steel.

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

So if I understand this correctly, there is a 2/3 chance per hour for an encounter in a dungeon, so 8 hours of uninterrupted rest are essentially never happening? Given that no fight should take that long, does it take 3 fights or so before the rest is ruined? guess not then, suppose they do...

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

that is only a problem if you do not gain some resources from not resting. I like how Draw Steel makes you stronger in combat if you do not rest while attrition comes from your health. So you have an incentive to not rest every chance you get but to push forward (and if timed right, you are at...

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

sure, the point was more that the danger is by default artificial doesn’t matter, I could have written no one ever makes it to level 5 just as well, which affects your game whether you play an AP or not
