Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

D&D, not Hasbro, and I feel they have exceeded that for most of the past 10 years, so maybe not that impressive after all. Certainly not out of reach for one new book no, but then D&D’s revenue is not 1 Billion, so I have no idea how you arrived there

ok, I agree that that one is hard to reach, but you wrote that ‘2.5-5% increase would be considered a phenomenal success’ and I very much doubt that one Heck, that low a bar is something the FR DLCs could accomplish, and they fill half a book

what do you base that on? Having one extra book should pretty easily accomplish that Also, it is below their growth rate the last 10 years even without extra books

that are the IFs, agreed, they did not manage that with me. Pretty sure if they had released a somewhat different version it would not have had much impact on either of your criteria, for that they have to really screw up - and as bad as the playtest is, it lets them identify those cases at...

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

eh, didn’t work for me, I do not like 2024, I prefer 2014. Maybe that is the consequence of an evergreen strategy, I certainly wanted more change, but it is not evergreen if people do not stick with it as a consequence of stagnation My point was more that how they collect feedback and how they...

can it be both, sure. Do I think their approach is awful at getting meaningful results, absolutely. I said a few times that their testing is only decent at identifying the real misfires, not at identifying improvements over the current version. It helps them to not create a new 4e, but it does...

the way WotC does it yes, it’s at least as much marketing as it is playtesting

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

Modern to me is more focused on narrativist and/or gamist elements while ‘old’ is more simulationist. fail forward, multiple levels of success, clocks, playbooks, metacurrencies there are both old and modern games released today, so no clear line in time at least Not sure if I would say PbtA...

Flashbacks to TSR buying a needlework company... As a licensed product fine, why not, apparently anything goes anyway (it's certainly no worse than beer or gambling, ...). As an actual WotC product it would show a distinct lack of ideas to add to whatever their release schedule is

If this is a real release for 2026, then maybe they really shouldn't make more ;)

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

not sure how that was later, it was the very last exchange you two had, after you avoided answering repeatedly on the pages before it it isn’t, no one was questioning that. The question was and you still have not answered it

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

sure, but that doesn’t mean it does not exist, and it can easily explain why some people want more WotC products despite there being so many 5e products Heck, the majority of products I have are 3pp, not just in number but also in total price, and I still would like to see WotC release more per...

probably because you consistently refused to answer their question…

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

there is a big difference between wanting more WotC material and wanting more 5e material. Most people never get anything from DMsGuild or 3pps in general. You can pretend that is not the case, but that makes you miss the point
