D&D 5E (2024) Lorwyn: First Light has been released

I mean if we compare it to video game DLC, a "season pass" usually goes for half the main cost and provides maybe 25% more content (give or take). How does this DLC set (collectively) compare to that?

The great weakness of the RC is that it dispenses with the teaching tools.

That's a print book. Printing is more expensive than ever.

No, this shows that their pricing is indefensible. Without printing, costs are linear: fewer words, less art, less time editing, etc. I am a firm believer in RPGs costing what they cost so creators can make decentmoney, but a 12k word book costing half of what a 100k word book does is predatory.

Isn't that book harbound? The whole reason it was delayed was due to the hardcover bending?

D&D 5E (2024) PAX WotC Dungeons and Dragons speculation thread.

I wasn't clear: I am not saying WotC is using GenAI in their marketing materials. What i am saying is that marketing departments appear to being hit with layoffs due to people being replaced by LLMs (for all kinds of work). I brought it up as a possible contributing factor as to why WotC's...

D&D 5E (2024) PAX WotC Dungeons and Dragons speculation thread.

I am talking about the marketing department doing their thing, not creative. For example, we just saw Critical Role get burned by whatever marketing agency they used for their Holiday Sales email with an obvious genAI illustration.

Based on what my wife -- an art director for a large reinsurer -- has seen, marketing is one of the first departments to fall to AI replacements. The remaining humans are overworked and over their heads.

I feel like this is an intentionally limited reading of the ability just to have something to wag a finger at. The intent is clear.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Again, there are ostensibly an order of magnitude more customers than there were 10 years ago. That has not translated into a broader range of products.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

It seems odd to me that they say they have increased their player base by something like an order of magnitude since 5E launched, and yet we are not really seeing any increase in output despite all those new customers. That said, it looks like they are ramping up Beyond only content, and we...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I wouldn't have. I don't work for WotC. I don't know what their publishing capacity is. I don't actually buy that WotC is at production capacity.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I understand that folks like the existing settings. I am just saying each new edition should have a setting built for that edition.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Excuse my hyperbole. But the point remains: in AD&D, the GM determines what is needed. In 3E, the system was codified in a player facing manner.

TSR On the Relative Merits of the TSR Editions

The black border core books were the same text as the blue books, just different (worse) art and layout. The Players/DMs option books were essentially a new edition.
