D&D General WotC is at it again

In a practical sense, the difference is that if they had ownership, you would lose the right to sell your own ideas. Boogeyman: An imagined monster used to scare people. In this case, fear of a technicality overrunning the reality. (Use of generic "you", instead of you, Another Guy...

D&D General WotC is at it again

To clarify, as others didn't - they aren't claiming ownership. They are claiming license, which is not at all the same thing. Or, to be even more specific, in posting to their site, you are agreeing to grant them license. Don't want to give them license? Don't put it on D&D Beyond.

Mod Note: Rude. Maybe stop trying to live up to your username. Keep it civil is rule #1 here. You are done in this thread.

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

How soon we forget. 5e24 was released when it was probably less for the need to do a revision right now, and more because it was the 50th Anniversary.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I... don't recall seeing such interactions. Specifically, it isn't, "I love it but...". It is more, "Ugh, you like that? It should die in a fire!"

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

If it is that... I don't "adopt" games. Meaning, I don't pick one, and just play that. I don't have a lot of system-loyalty. I just finished up a 5e14 game earlier this year. Before that was Ashen Stars. Next on tap is Savage Worlds. When I run games, typically no two campaigns in a row are...

Do not listen to Tom Sawyer! It is a scam!

D&D General Ben Riggs interviews Fred Hicks and Cam Banks, then shares WotC sales data.

Not really. I mean, even if we ignore the insult... Auto-tune takes a performance, and corrects it. Adventures give you material around which to base a performance. The best musical analogy is probably sheet music - it provides the content, but the nuance still comes from the performer.

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

Sorry, but I cannot say if I would adopt a hypothetical game whose rules are only described as "different from that". That's just not how I choose what games to run or play.

D&D General Circle Magic Concerns In "Heroes Of Faerun"

I would generally wait to see the whole implementation before having concerns.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Mod note: Your sparkling disdain is not really compatible with the respect we expect you to show for your fellow posters, even if you disagree with them. You might want to step back from that edge, before you say something truly regrettable.

D&D General WotC is at it again

Until someone stops the top level companies making AI from scraping the entire internet, this is hardly a concern. Plus, this kind of boilerplate existed before generative AI was a thing, and kind of needs to exist if you want to be able to put your own material into D&DB.

Ken Burnside on how screwed Asmodee is

Long scale has a separate word for 10^9. The more correct long scale notation would have been 1.2 milliard, rather than 1,200 million.

D&D Beyond, in general. So, this will include homebrew content monsters and magic items and such, as well as messages.

Ken Burnside on how screwed Asmodee is

The cue is that, in the world of numbers, you would not write $1.200 million unless those trailing zeroes were especially meaningful.

D&D General WotC is at it again

Yeah. If they don't have such terms, their own publishing can be paralyzed. Even if they never actually look at user-posted content, if they publish something, someone will have posted something similar, and claim WotC owes them for it.

    pop up ads

Not really. The thing is the bad behavior of ads changes over time as advertisers willfully or accidentally submit newly creative forms of malformed ads that the services don't always catch that interacts poorly with site code. That the ads sometimes misbehave is known. Exactly how alters...

What are you reading in 2025?

I am currently in the middle of J.S. Bailey's Dalton Kane and the Greens, which is okay. It is mostly about slow reveals of character histories that mold their current behaviors, stringing out answers to questions like, "Why did the main character faint at the sight of a salad?" Not a...
