Approaching writing adventures for home games?

Sorry, I don't mean to say every adventure is a dungeon, just that the adventure I created in the forest was. It had clearings (rooms), forest paths (dungeon corridors) linking them and various encounters in the clearings or on the paths. The only real difference was that unlike a dungeon, you...

In a fantasy world filled with magic and miraculous beings, will the religious concepts of the locals be completely different from the human of Earth?

Mate, you don't need to be so defensive, this is just a conversation, I'm not attacking you, I'm just giving an alternate perspective on how it might work. I even agreed that it might become common practice, even if the average person can't afford the resources.

In a fantasy world filled with magic and miraculous beings, will the religious concepts of the locals be completely different from the human of Earth?

That was actually a thing in 3e (having just looked it up), the soul might not even want to come back which would cause the spell to fail. I can imagine some arguments around the table if a player said "No, I'm good" after their friends spent time and money organising a raise dead for them :ROFLMAO:

In a fantasy world filled with magic and miraculous beings, will the religious concepts of the locals be completely different from the human of Earth?

Sacrificing to before a sea voyage Umberlee makes sense to me. If there is a god of the seas that might drag you down to the bottomless depths of the ocean, it wouldn't be surprising for someone to make an offering before the trip. If you're a farmer inland who follows the faerunian pantheon but...

In a fantasy world filled with magic and miraculous beings, will the religious concepts of the locals be completely different from the human of Earth?

Maybe this would be a thing for the wealthy, but even in 5e a 500gp diamond is likely out of reach for the majority of the population. Which isn't to say that keeping the body preserved for 10 days wouldn't become a a common ritual as you've outlined here, but, for example, I don't think many...

Approaching writing adventures for home games?

I've created an adventure in a forest that was essentially a dungeon with permeable walls. I had clearings that were linked by paths but nothing stopped players going off the beaten track. For each clearing I had different encounters, some of them knew about other clearings (as in what was in...

In a fantasy world filled with magic and miraculous beings, will the religious concepts of the locals be completely different from the human of Earth?

I sort of wonder how much a typical inhabitant would "know" about the way things work. There are priests of the gods who claim how the world works but most of the followers of the gods would have to take it on faith. Just because priests have magic doesn't mean it is necessarily divine, after...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

That's like, a 100% increase in authors that I thought used it! I had no idea about Anderson, I always thought it was just a Moorcock creation.

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

Not surprising considering its origin was from a single author as a background to his stories. Alignment has moved from "Do you align with the cosmic forces of Law or Chaos" to become instead each characters moral compass. It can be a useful tool to help determine how your character acts but I...

D&D 5E (2024) Fireball Vs Chromatic Orb Late Tier 2 Thoughts.

Overrated since 3e with the increase in monster hit points.

TSR Why would anyone want to play 1e?

I follow the baldurs gate/icewind dale games and allow all warriors to specialise in multiple weapon groups. Mastery or better is typically a fighter only ability (but kits might allow others better capability)

    D&D General Mythos in D&D

My use would probably be a negative amount, I don't really like mythos in my DnD games to the point where someone who wanted to play a GOO warlock was told that there would be no interaction with the old ones and that at best it could be a warlock that followed demons and the fiend warlock could...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I can't remember where I read this, it might have been in a 3e book or dungeon article, but one of the things about the 9 hells was that even though they might be suffering now, the souls want to be there. The enticement of future power and moving up in the fiendish hierarchy is worth a...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I liked it more when it had effects tied to it, I even used it ages ago when running an old thunder rift adventure where anyone who was evil (originally chaotic) would set off a defence in a wizard's sanctum. 3e had various effects such as weapons that dealt more damage to evil or needing a...

    D&D General Mixed Background

Most likely be designing your own background (skills, feats, etc) and then providing a sentence or two rather than a name for the background.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

Yes, he means Bruce Heard, looks like an autocorrect mistake. Bruce has some interesting stuff on his website, focused on BECMI edition dnd.

I've used adblockers for so long, I've kind of forgotten that websites have ads.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

The domain system doesnt really need any changes from memory, it was all d20 roll to perform a regency action against a target number. That makes it easily ported into later editions since it uses the same d20 + modifier vs TN that 3e and later players are familiar with. Ithink if I was going...

I check every now and then, hopefully it will be fixed at some point.

Yeah, I think that was on the old birthright.net site but I keep getting a timeout when trying to access the site.
