D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer vs. Wizard: Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better?

I firmly think this is more powerful than a 5.5e martial character.

D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer vs. Wizard: Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better?

Just read that an honestly that's an awful lot of abilities. Seems meaningfully more powerful than 5.5e. But I could be wrong since I only just now read through it.

D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer vs. Wizard: Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better?

I want a Warlord too, and have for a long time now. But I don't think it was a choice between these and a Warlord. Artificer was maybe a choice between it and Warlord but Warlord was never going to be a core class in this game given the throw-back choice they made when initially designing 5e...

D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer vs. Wizard: Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better?

Rituals and access to more spells and better spells make wizards very distinct from sorcerers. Font of Magic and Metamagic make sorcerers very distinct from wizards.

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

The best information I've seen has been Mike Mearls' speculation. He seemed initially to think it was not meeting expectations but then seemed to change his mind, at least to some respect, as he observed some DnDBeyond numbers, which were much higher. But that's all pretty vague.

D&D General Wearing a lantern on your belt?

yes that's the "even if it's not going to burn you" It still looks like a flame.

D&D General Wearing a lantern on your belt?

It's a flame now. You probably want it in a lantern, even if it's not going to burn you. Magic and tech are essentially the same in this game. There are no rules for throwing a rock at a lantern and splash damage from it in 5.5e.

D&D General Wearing a lantern on your belt?

Would you be OK with it if the light source in the lantern were from a continual flame spell?

D&D General Wearing a lantern on your belt?

Weirdly, though this has been a topic that goes back to 1e AD&D, both you and the YouTuber Pack Tactics mention this issue this week. The truth is, people in our world hung lanterns on belts sometimes. It just makes sense to keep your hands free. This is a Flemish miner from 1906 using a...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Yes he notes it's atypical. The fighters simply reliably dishing out a lot of single-target damage quickly in the first two rounds, and being able to make pretty much any save for those rounds, is really what's happening here. And that would apply just as well to some monster-oriented combat...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Details on the magic items were sparse. There is something there, I just don't know what it was.

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Every level of Champion is both 1) something really useful, and 2) boring. Improved crit (twice) Advantage on Init Added Fighting Style Heroic Inspiration every turn Limited regeneration and advantage on death saves It's almost all passive abilities.

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Arise foul thread! OK, so not too old. Just a month off from being fresh. It's still twitching a bit at this stage I think. Treantmonk just released (on Patreon) or is about to release (on Youtube) a test experiment he ran. Five 17th level single-class identical Champion Fighters (he ran as...

D&D General Arcane Subclasses UA Survey is up

I was never a fan of prestige classes. They were intended for one special career themed path, and optimizers used them like a Halloween grab bag of candy, Frankensteining one prestige class on another on another in a hodge podge of abilities never intended to work with each other to dominate the...

I think he plays only Gnome Bards. For which I respect him. He knows what he likes.

D&D General Arcane Subclasses UA Survey is up

In general I agree. The Horror one was better. I feel like a lot of these are very conservative in this UA. Like they didn't want people angry at them for trying something new. So instead of something unique and interesting that might need some tweaking, they'd throw in a short range teleport...
