    D&D 5E (2014) Recharge powers

If you're the DM, then yes, you can punish players for stretching themselves out too thin. But as a player you don't have that level of control. If there's more long-resters than short-resters then you're simply out-voted. If you were to somehow force everyone onward when you knew they weren't...

    D&D 5E (2014) How many fans want a 5E Warlord?

I'll agree with that. But I don't think there's a way to "fix" that in the core rules for everybody. Even it WotC did define it one way, people who did not agree would interpret it the other. Similar to people's take on "Is Psionics Magic", the first thing to be house ruled if Mystics are...

    D&D 5E (2014) How many fans want a 5E Warlord?

For the first, buffing usually is pre-combat. But the exact numbers of a hypothetical feat could be massaged to make it an attractive alternative. Bladelocks for example survive on mid-combat THP buffers. Wildshaped Druids even more so. For the second...that is a good point. But not entirely...

    D&D 5E (2014) How many fans want a 5E Warlord?

Honest question about the Warlord from a total n00b - wanted to play one in 4th but never got to, and mostly speaking from a 3rd Ed. background: Haters don't like "shouting away wounds", and supporters counter with "hit points are not meat". Both arguments seem fair. Core game already has...

    D&D 5E (2014) Recharge powers

I've been really hoping for this, but then again, I severely dislike short rests. "Long rest" classes go nova, and when the party stops people usually petition to stop for the night. If several characters can still go, it's hard for the one "short rest" class to convince everyone to slow down...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mid-level Versatility

Apologies for my meandering thoughts. The original question was the only real question I was asking...the rest was more me thinking out loud and debating pros and cons with myself to help get conversation started.

    D&D 5E (2014) Mid-level Versatility

Agreed. Meaningful choices and opportunity cost are part of the system. But the flip side of that, saying that all characters have to be one-dimensional, isn't exactly a selling point. Using Wolverine as the perfect counter-example, try and recall just how useless he was in the '90s cartoon...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mid-level Versatility

All very true. But there's still the question of which thing (or things) should you limit yourself to, knowing that you're trying to get the most mileage out of them? For example, I've gotten into the habit of giving just about any build a single Rogue dip if not starting there. I'm not sure if...

D&D 5E (2014) What classes do you want added to 5e?

Put me down for more subclasses, backgrounds, playable races, and the like. But I think I'd rather keep the class list a little simple...anything that looks and feels like a Cleric IS a Cleric, though perhaps with a special class option or domain. Without something strong flavorwise to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mid-level Versatility

What in your opinion is the best way to pack the most utility and versatility into a small number of levels? Assume the 5-to-10 range, rather than a hypothetical Level 20 build. In a team game such as this, it's probably better for everyone to have their own specialty...Tank, Healer, or what...

    D&D 5E (2014) What about a Shapeshifter class?

I like it. Would provide an alternative to the problematic Wild Shape feature. True, shapeshifting feels more race-y than class-y, but Wild Shape is example enough that it can be a class feature. In 3rd ed, we similarly had the Shifter and War Shaper among others. I think you'd have to be...

D&D 5E (2014) Which one monstrous race would you like stats for?

Lizardfolk would be my vote. I know it's in the DMG table, but would still like to see it as a player race. Other than that, I'd second Medusa for races not already in that table. Though yeah, it would be a bit hard to balance properly.

D&D 5E (2014) Short Rests: How many does your group get/take between long rests, on average?

0+ here. The short rest mechanic usually only ends up happening whenever there's a social encounter - things where a spell or power may be used on the fly, but not every single move is tracked. Things aren't strenuous and we'd have a chance to get that resource back before the next combat begins.

D&D 5E (2014) How Many in your Group?

Our main group is 4, sometimes 5, and the DM. About the limit of my personal preference. The other group I regularly game with is a pickup game at our FLGS that can up to 10-12 at times. Turns into a complete mess at that level.

    D&D 3.x Comparison to 3.5e

3rd ed was like looking at the raw source code. Lots of fiddly bits to mess around with. The new edition is quick, simple, and has the same spirit but far more streamlined. Lower magic and reliance on buffs, easier to make less-optimized characters that are still fun and not drastically behind...

TV shows you'll be watching this year?

Doctor Who, Walking Dead, Arrow, and Flash definitely. SHIELD and Gotham probably. Otherwise Ninja Warrior, Lucha Underground, and Alabama football as usual.

Where should "5e House Rules" and 5e "Character Builds & Optimization" Posts Go?

I'm not fond of all-editions, personally. Too many unrelated but similar-looking things get all mixed up, and it's a chore to sort through. Either subforums under each edition, or edition subforums under the current main heading, would serve the same purpose either way.

Request: Move the Optimization Section back into the General 5e Section

If the Optimization section isn't under 5e, there should at least be a 5e (and 4e, etc.) section under Optimization. Would help to keep different systems separated, doubly so for D&D where you'd probably not be playing multiple different editions at once, and wouldn't really care about 4th...

    A silver lining?

One upside to the unexpected closing of the WotC forums when they did? A significant reduction in the number of Ranger threads. (By about 100%). I think it was the only way.
