D&D General Settings of Hope vs Settings of Despair

They are common, in the sense that matters in the Tolkien context - they are not nobility, or even leaders in their communities. Aragorn, Boromir, Faramir, Theoden, Eomer, Denethor - are all holders of hereditary leadership titles. Legolas is the son of the King of the Mirkwood Elves. Gimli...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Deciding for other people why the are okay with something (as in, "because fantasy") is rude, and apt to be incorrect. And annoying. In reality, chimpanzee muscle fibers are notably more powerful than human, and chimps regularly outperform humans in pulling and jumping. That a smaller frame...

D&D General Settings of Hope vs Settings of Despair

I'm not sure the text actually bears that out. There are problems in Tolkien's world, yes. But most of the folks in it are not yet in a state of hopelessness and greed and evil - the Dark Lord hasn't yet spread across the land. The people have not yet given in to despair. He may call it...

D&D 5E (2014) See Invisibility: awareness of Invisibility

Because what people playing D&D really want is for GMs to cheese their own rules to annoy players.

(Paranoia) Powers That Be: Trust No One - On Pre-Order & PDF Now!

Excellent work, citizen Mong-O-OSE! Your theory that we could get members of secret societies to reveal their traitorous affiliations and knowledge with announcements of the newest products from R&D has turned out to have some merit.

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

Mod Note: The message that plain people don't have consensual relations and children is: 1) Demonstrably incorrect. 2) Insulting. You have a choice: you can go for the trifecta and add, 3) Moderator actionable, or you can stop now.

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

I am not saying you cannot build a plausible history for a blond character among folks who look different and have different culture. I am saying that doing so, and making that person a savior figure, will look kinda racist. It says the native culture itself isn't good enough to have its own...

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

If male-female romance was or had been suppressed by our culture in a meaningful way, that'd be an excellent question.

... you do realize that this discussion thread is under a story that Morrus wrote about all that? When he says he reported on it, he means as the opening of this thread, he reported on it.

So, make her a white person assuming someone else's culture, and then are the Chosen One/White Savior? That's arguably worse. I can get that Weiss may be attached to Goldmoon, but the character's a really unfortunate example of some really racist tropes. Yeah, but realize that the gods...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

You know that most of the world finds 14-year-olds to be annoying, and they certainly couldn't have a working society like that, right? Right? :p

Tasslehoff Burrfoot was, in effect, the worst case of, "But that's what my character would do!" ever shown. If it had been at an actual table, I would have suspected Tass was run by the GM's significant other, because they were allowed to get away with being annoying to, and stealing scenes...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Management as a "whole franchise" should mean that Dragonlance D&D products and videogame offerings and merch would all come out in a coordinated manner with a TV show. Not necessarily all at the same moment, but in some way that made sense to take advantage of each other - like if you release...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Making Goldmoon a blond white woman cosplaying as a Native American is right out. Either make her people absolutely nothing like Native Americans, or, double down, and cast First Nations people in those roles. Gnomes can probably be cut completely. Mustaches as Solamnic Knights are fine...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Wild speculation is wild speculation. Call it "re-imagined", and yeah, because the original's pretty bad. I think giving the Seekers actual powers rather gets in the way of their entire concept. Indeed, the more outright magical power you show, the less the gods being away will seem to...

You are free to think what you want. If you want to get in an argument over what folks think about series that aren't the actual subject of the thread, well, we can see how that turns out, hm?

How are you measuring "top"? Doing some quick searching... Lord of the Rings as a series has sold over 150 million books worldwide. Narnia has overall sold over 120 million books The Wheel of Time over 100 million. Game of Thrones is over 90 million. Discworld - over 80 million Harry Potter -...

If they are asking that in the middle of a fight scene in the Dragonlance show, that's probably a problem. By which I mean, folks, keep it to the topic, please?

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

I never read the WoT books, but I was vaguely aware of them because many around me read them. I liked the show. The only reason I didn't watch all of it was that my wife, who is fan of the books, REALLY didn't like what they did with Matt, so we stopped. So, there's kind of the gamut, there.
