    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

I've never agreed with that point of view. PCs and NPCs are different, and PCs get access to all sorts of things NPCs don't. Why does the NPC get cool thing X....because weird circumstance XYZ happened to them....that's it we move on. DMs are 100% liscenced to give NPCs weird quirks and...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

Well to be fair, from levels 5,6,7 the 5e fireball is better than the the 3.5 version (3.5 doesn't get better until level 9)....and as you noted earlier we should be careful about including higher level builds in our discussion. But yeah the 5e fireball does more damage in general, and its save...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

yeah but the point of the discussion was to determine how often wizards are making what kinds of saves. Shield is nice, shield still doesn't get you the AC that frontliners have, so they are still a better target for attacks. Simply put, I would still wager that wizards are getting hit (and...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

Are we talking an armor feat? If your talking multiclassing, then no....stats have shown multi-classing is pretty rare among most builds...its the thing we internet optimizers like to do, not the common folk.

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

Other than guidance is so freakin spammable it makes me want to pull my hair out.... no much:)

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

heals themselves and party members. immune to fear provides an insane buff to saves massive buff spells big smites detection of certain foes celestial horse for exploration I get your perspective, but the paladin is the wrong class to pick.... its just stacked in 5e.

Pure wizards don't exactly have the best ACs. Ranged attacks, area attacks....yes wizards are going to get hit.

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

Battlemaster Fighter just needs a couple more maneuvers for cha/int and there's your warlord right there. Its already most of the way there. I like the idea of an aura based class ala the old dragon shaman.

    D&D 5E (2024) Help me Houserule 5e Equipment & Items

Since your goal is more good things for PCs to do with their cash, might I suggest a focus on consumables, and designing them to maximize the action economy. Aka bombs I can chuck as a bonus action or even a use an option action. Once you do that they don't need to have crazy effects or super...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

I think its a reasonable statement to make that there are far far more enemies that deal damage than deliver int or wisdom saving throws. And while you could absolutely run a game just chock full of Illithid...I hope we can agree that is not the typical dnd game. Now I am in the camp that...

Ah my apologies the way I wrote that I can see the confusion. I was talking about the 5th level wizard class ability Memorize spell....so not high level.

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

I would argue Arcana checks are one of the most requested skill checks in a good portion of games, probably the most common knowledge check. So the wizard gets a solid advantage there. Also the 5th level memorize spell is incredibly powerful. the wizard being able to go "give me an hour and I...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

You are correct that the frequency saves does depend on the setting and what monsters are used. But there are two caveats there: 1) Since we are all talking in generals, there are saves that are more common than others. I think its a very reasonable statement to say characters will make...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

I think Wizards are completely fine as a class. But I also fully respect if your focus is on combat and your games don't do a lot of downtime and exploration and other pillars that the wizard loses luster compared to other spellcasters. Wizard don't bring the raw flavor and power of some other...

D&D 5E (2024) Seeking feedback on homebrew monsters

I would say if your goal is to challenge so many PCs without adding more monsters....we need to focus more on area effects, whether its spells from the monsters or (my preference), effects from the terrain itself. Perhaps the goblins have already trapped the area so there are various effects...

    D&D General Games Economies

The game lists iron as a trade material costing 1 sp per lb. Now the question is do we need true steel, or would iron and charcoal suffice? Lets assume a more stringest standard. Now how much would steel cost? I've seen numbers all over the place, from like 1 gp/lb to like 5 gp/lb. I'll go with...

    D&D General Games Economies

With respect, this is the ENTIRE point of this thread, to make a more realistic economy for people that want that sort of thing. So I highlighted certain spells that would need special handling, like fabricate, to prevent economy breaks and for dms to decide how they want to handle it. I...

    D&D General Games Economies

You can actually use fabricate twice a day with arcane recovery (the slots round up so you can get 1 4th level slot). Based on the 2024 crafting rules, a wizard fabricating plate armor can replace 300 armorsmiths in terms of speed of productivity. That's a pretty sizable chunk of the armorsmith...

D&D General Hit Points are a great mechanic

my personal favorite is the VP/W system (vitality and wounds). Its a version of hitpoints where you have two pools, vitality and wounds. Vitality is taken first, representing your stamina, ability to dodge, etc. Its tracked like normal hitpoints. Once vitality is depleted, new damage is applied...
