Monsters & More: An In-Depth Review of the 2025 D&D Monster Manual

They were created to be flesh eating fish that were in environments piranhas don't go anywhere near. Like saltwater Quippers, and cold water Quippers exist. As opposed to the piranhas which are basically exclusive to some rivers and lakes in South America. No clue why they decided to rename them.

D&D 5E (2024) Dungeons & Dragons 2025 Monster Manuals show up in the wild.

Once you can answer questions, I am curious if the monster subgroups in the Appendix have little write ups. Like are the Demons and Devils just listed together on a list there, or is there a little explanation of what Demons and Devils are in addition?

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

There are explicitly 2 CR 24 monsters. The Red and Gold Ancients. AlphaStream miscounted probably. This guy counted everything. The reason there were 2 more monsters by type is because the Empyreans are both fiends and celestials.

D&D General Hold Back the Dead - Free Digital D&D Adventure Coming 4th Feb

There is a bunch of creature traits in the DMG that could be put on an NPC to represent them being of a certain species or grouping.

Monsters & More: An In-Depth Review of the 2025 D&D Monster Manual

I personally don’t need or care for a species mod chart, I tend to just use NPC blocks as they are. I would have preferred that Orcs, Drow and Duergar gotten their own sections, even as something like Lolthite Drow, and Gruumshian Orcs. Or even just NPC Lolth followers and Gruumsh Followers.

Monsters & More: An In-Depth Review of the 2025 D&D Monster Manual

The person in that review overall still liked the book, they were just disappointed by some things like it not going as far in depth lore wise as the older one.
