TSR On the Relative Merits of the TSR Editions

I mostly remember 1e being more gonzo with us being kids and middle-schoolers. We had fun and we made a lot of stuff up like items and monsters. 2e made some of the PCs rules better or more straightlined. all of the editions seem to have added more PC rules and PCs seem to become more complex...

    D&D 5E (2024) Let's Write A High Level Adventure

As part of an encounter/fight. Splitting the party from just attacking and have one disable a door that prevents the others from advancing. Having another dispel wards that are making the monsters more powerful and so on. Create trade-offs that matter. Kill one of the prisoners and have...

Best practices for easy-to-run modules [+]

I looked at both options and found that I followed along with the original better. Some had to do with the call-out boxes that highlight key features. This seems to separate the need to know stuff from the room description stuff. I like that the troll riddle is blocked out and bolded in the...

Best practices for easy-to-run modules [+]

I like having the monster stats in with the encounter to prevent flipping back and forth or worse, bringing more books to the game. I could be fine with monsters in the back of the adventure that I can print out to use as a sideboard. This would save space if they are reused several times...

Various Solutions For Tabletop Dungeon Terrain

I think there might be a problem with portability to the convention with big sets and power requirements of bringing a TV. One does not always have space at a convention and all maps/terrain should fit in a briefcase (my opinion).

Various Solutions For Tabletop Dungeon Terrain

Is it TotalConfusion? I'll likely be there. I ran something last year and just used printable 1inch graph paper found online. I used magic marker to draw the rooms and then I could pull out one at a time to place them on the table like a jigsaw puzzle. It worked fine, but might have been a...

RPG Evolution: Inspiration from Saugus Iron Works

We used to always go to Old Sturbridge Village in central Massachusetts. It is a whole village of old stores and buildings brought here to make a village. You can see the farmers and the blacksmith along with the potter and cooper. It is good for a day of walking around. Christmas is nice...

    Want to play a Duck?

I want to like them, but cannot get past thinking that Thanksgiving dinner is trying to fight back. To be fair though, I am not a fan of any animal PCs in general. The new art is better than the Daffy Duck old style.

Homebrew Need help with homebrewed Magic Surge mechanics

I seem to be lost on these charts you have. The first thing you mention is the level of the spell, but the chart shows something called magic impact with modifiers starting in the middle and not not at the bottom. Same with the other chart about zones. I can get that some places have a better...

    Favorite mythological creature

My father used to tell the story of the Hobyahs. I think they are originally old Scottish, but blended into English at some point. They seem a bit like kobolds and rats rather than dogs or dragons. They would come around to steal children and get scared away by the dog. Eventually the...
