    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 2022 Overview - Did you purchase any of the books?

Just Spelljammer - I'm a sucker for campaign settings. Next year I'm down for I think everything other than the Phandelver campaign. Feast and famine.

D&D General Sir Plane "Not Appearing in this Cosmology"

Why does being infinite make the planes boring? Honest question.

    Ain't that the dang truth.

Dragonlance Dragonlance Adventure & Prelude Details Revealed

In fairness, GMforPowergamers was kicked from the thread, and can't defend their arguments any longer. It seems poor form to call them out specifically at this point.

Dragonlance Dragonlance Adventure & Prelude Details Revealed

I mean, I agree with you - D&D essentially is a Manichean / Gnostic world, where Good and Evil have physical presences. If a devil has an AC of X and HP of Y, they physically exist and can be interacted with. This is actually exactly why I low-key like the alignment system, but dislike it as a...

Dragonlance Dragonlance Adventure & Prelude Details Revealed

Speaking personally as someone who can trace a pretty straight line from "being really into D&D in Highschool in the 90s" to "spending six years in philosophy school in the '00s": D&D raises genuinely interesting philosophical questions. Is there such a thing as capital G Good? If there is, does...

WotC WotC needs an Elon Musk

That’s what I wonder - they’ve shown us they can write good campaign setting books. Eberron seems to have been quite well received, and (with some grumbling) so was Ravenloft.

WotC WotC needs an Elon Musk

The Poet and the Critic have different jobs. Every once in a blue moon you get a T.S. Eliot or an Allen Tate, but it’s rare.

WotC WotC needs an Elon Musk

Colville had a recent, well-articulated video on exactly this point: What are Dungeons For?

Dragonlance Dragonlance Adventure & Prelude Details Revealed

I'm going to just keep beating the big 'ole Leibnitz drum: The problem of Theodicy edit: With my honest apologies to @Micah Sweet , I only mean to bring up the fact that a lot of the questions people bring up over and over with regard to alignment have been considered by philosophers for an...

D&D 5E (2014) Weapon attuned to Mechanis trouble sector

Oh, that’s a neat idea - maybe a +1 shield made from half of a monodrone that gives you: “Axiomatic Mind: The bearer can’t be compelled to act in a manner contrary to its nature or its instructions.”

WotC Dragonlance: Everything You Need For Shadow of the Dragon Queen

At the risk of coming up to the line of discussing real-world religion - which I absolutely understand is forbidden, and I'm expressly trying to restrict the discussion to philosophy - you might find Leibnitz's concept of theodicy an interesting area to plumb on this topic.

WotC Dragonlance: Everything You Need For Shadow of the Dragon Queen

It's kind of wild to me that "there aren't any orcs in Krynn" is the bigger deal than "you get to be a knight of Solamnia" or "you get to be a wizard of High Sorcery".

D&D 5E (2014) Weapon attuned to Mechanis trouble sector

Mechanus, the lawful neutral plane in the Great Wheel cosmology, is the home of the modrons. It was originally 'known' as Nirvana. While I'm not sure off the top of my head what particular weapon type would be most fitting for it, I think it'd be a hoot if it always did a predictable and...

    D&D General Best D&D Novels

As much as I dislike the changes that it made to the setting in retrospect, I did totally love the Prism Pentax Pentad series when I read it back in the day. edit: I seem to have trained my autocorrect in some oddly specific ways.

WotC Dragonlance: Everything You Need For Shadow of the Dragon Queen

I suppose I'm not sure how those two are really all that distinct from each other, if I'm honest. Then again, I suspect the debate would be far different if the frame of the argument was "there's no psionics in Birthright", or whatever.

Dragonlance Dragonlance: Solamnic Knights & Mages of High Sorcery Preview

I imagine a lot of new DMs reading Curse of Strahd would be somewhat confused at the seemingly random arcanoloth in the Amber Temple, but there's no reason you can't make him Inajira.
