Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

Yeah . . . but she could have been doing that AND some awesome engineering! I've absolutely loved Carol Kane as Pelia in SNW, because I've loved just about everything she's ever done . . . but I do think her potential was wasted. Her portrayal is wonderful, but could have been so much more! Of...

D&D 5E (2024) Teos talks about using the hero’s of the Borderlands Starter Box to run games.

Oh sure, yeah. Even the modules were a lot "lighter" than what we expect today, and you were expected to adapt them to your own homebrewed campaign. There were a lot of good "B" series modules . . . but certainly the next "classic" after B2 Keep on the Borderlands was X1 The Isle of Dread!

D&D 5E (2024) Teos talks about using the hero’s of the Borderlands Starter Box to run games.

Kind of. Keep on the Borderlands was bundled with one of the iterations of the D&D Basic Set. The next boxed set in the series, the D&D Expert Set, came bundled with the Isle of Dread. But the expectation was that groups would play other modules in the "B" series before moving on to the Expert Set.

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

Hard disagree. A crappy, low-effort MMO would be an insane thing to do in the year 2025, sure. But a well-done, top-tier effort MMO . . . good games are always welcome! And IME, do well commercially.

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

I'm not an expert on the various VTTs on the market today, but . . . I do know there are already at least 2 that actually do use generative algorithms to generate 3D maps or dungeon rooms. Dungeon Alchemist is one of them. I've played around with it, and it's kinda fun, but I've never been...

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

If somebody gave me a fully featured, ready-to-rock, 3D VTT that was easy to use as a DM and as a player . . . I'd give that a run! But it's hard to make happen, seeing as nobody's really done it yet. The 3D VTTs that are out there currently all seem like more trouble than they are worth, or...

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

Hmmm, looks like I am remembering the shift as stronger than it actually was . . . but it seemed pretty revolutionary, and controversial among fans, at the time. I still prefer the 4E take over the 5E take, even if it wasn't quite the strong shift I remember. But I prefer my imperfect memory...

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

Well, yeah . . . but the default is still the classic Red = Evil, Gold = Good, etc, etc. And if you read the new Book of Dragons that just came out . . . it really doubles down on describing each dragon species in classic form. The MM gives that disclaimer, and it is an easy change as a DM . ...

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

In the game world lore of D&D, yes . . . but that's not why we have color-coded dragons in D&D. The D&D version of Tiamat came after Gygax color-coded the evil dragons in the chromatic colors and the goodly dragons in metallic colors. In real-world mythology, Tiamat is not a five-headed dragon...

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

4th Edition tried to remove the idea of monster species being locked into specific alignments, either through their stats or their in-game culture. WotC regressed back to the classic model for 5th Edition. I assume the 4E change was unpopular, but don't really know. I continue with it myself...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

It's interesting to hear about the ebb and flow of managerial styles from the TSR days, and I can't help but compare them to the ebb and flow at WotC today, as they return to a franchise model for D&D. It seems the wheel turns and what once was will be again . . . both good and bad! I do feel...

D&D General Take A Look At The Class Boards From The New D&D Starter Set

There seems to be a misunderstanding with some folks . . . This new starter set is just that, a starter set. Not a new edition of the game, not D&D translated into a card game, not D&D trying to integrate Magic the Gathering style of mechanics or collectible cards like the "Fortune Cards" in 4E...

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

Huh? Why would WotC NOT pursue video games based on D&D? Especially since Baldur's Gate 3 was so very recently incredibly successful? There have been two D&D MMOs so far, "D&D Online" and "Neverwinter" . . . both successful enough they are still running today. But they are both older games...

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

No, not really. I mean, sure, WotC could release an "Honor Among Thieves" book next year or so . . . but that would be a terrible business decision. The time for a tie-in was when the movie was released in theatres.

Daggerheart "Description on Demand" a GM DON'T

Huh. It's definitely a trend on the rise, beyond DaggerHeart, I think. I've been moving more towards this style as a DM over the past few years, in bits and pieces . . . and most of my players don't seem on board! They don't get angry or anything, just confused when I try to give them a...
