Because when they don't, it looks like they're saying their opinion is objectively true. If you disagree, all that does is lead to otherwise avoidable conflict.

If they don't see you, that should be all that matters to you IMO. There's a difference between deciding to ignore someone (which everyone I think should be able to do) and forcing someone else to ignore you with no recourse. You are harming their experience of the site when it doesn't affect...

My point is you're not just making their presence disappear from your experience (which IMO should be all that matters to you when you move to ignore). You are making your presence disappear from their experience, as well as any interactions you have with anyone who isn't also ignoring them...

Fair, I'm sure my responses to posts have no gone well for me either sometimes. I think a lot of people don't bother to change the default when they use ignore, which is why I wish the default wasn't 100% lock out on both sides. Seems overly punitive for the intended purpose.

I suspected as much. I don't care for the assumed position being you are supposed to keep others from reading your posts, but it's not my call.

Like I said, everybody has a different line. It's just as subjective as any other opinion on this site.

Fair enough, but if it is mutual it's quite clear. That's why I asked if the mutual option is default (is it?). A lot of people must really dislike me. That's disheartening.

Is the default mutual? I've never seen it done otherwise that I know of, and inertia is a powerful force.

I've never really the point of the ignore button, since it's mutual when one side uses it. I don't feel I have the right to force others not to see my contributions, and I've never felt their contributions were so bad I shouldn't see them. So I just never exercise the option.

This is why I make such a big deal about people not presenting their opinions as opinions. All it does is get people's back up if they don't agree.

Yup. I recently (finally) learned that lesson the hard way. Still wish I had before I took it too far. Lots of conversations I wish I could still contribute to.

I'm not surprised you feel that way. You explicitly want nothing to do with the parts of the hobby and the game that I care about the most. The difference is, I have no interest in making fun of you, or laughing at jokes others make about me.
