Out of curiosity, I put the same picture prompt into Kling AI and it generated four male pictures.

This is what I've noticed with my first 2024 campaign, and the party only just hit 5th. Lower hit points means fights don't drag on too much but the characters (and their players) do feel more threatened, and it has made fights all the more enjoyable for it.

The only time I find fights tedious is when combatants just stand there and roll dice. Have opponents and monsters move around. Use the environment to make fights more interesting. Don't just think 2D on the battle mat.

This! I was shocked coming back to D&D to find one monster manual and MotM. I remember when 3.x had several monster books and NG did Tome of Horrors to bring all the classic monsters back into the game. There are still plenty of classic monsters that need updated and returning to the game.

As someone who loved Dark Sun in second edition before TSR ruined it, this sounds a lot better than the original concept to me. If you ever flesh it out further I'd be interested to read it.

I like my monsters to be setting agnostic but I want full lore as to what they are, they do, their societies (if any), interactions...etc. I'm the same with campaign settings. Don't give me a ran down and leave stuff up to me. If there is something then give me the information so I can work with it.

Same here. Pretty much every day is my head running adventure or campaign thoughts and even play throughs (in advance of a session) in my head. Even at work this is what I'm doing. At night I've taken to falling asleep listening to a game session playing on youtube otherwise my brain keeps...

Not me specifically. I was using those as examples. Middle Earth though doesn't have it's protagonists casting fireball, dimension door or teleporting. Gandalf doesn't cast Wish or similar. The power level as it were doesn't work. Although this assumes you still use all 20 levels or close enough.
