D&D General Wild Shape: Inefficient or Useless?

In one of the two 2024 campaigns I am running, I have a player with a (at present) 8th level Druid. Other than once a twice when it was used to become a wolf or bird, the Druid becomes a spider. That form is used for scouting and spying. It is never used for anything else because it just doesn't...

    D&D General DALL·E 3 does amazing D&D art

Agreed. It was just a trial as I noticed it now gave an option to make pictures. Normally I use ChatGPT but I've got to wait till payday to renew my subscription. The skeleton on the wall was rather unexpected. I had assumed it would do the traditional held by the wrists.

    D&D General DALL·E 3 does amazing D&D art

Gemini on my phone now has an image generation option. I tried the following description... A dungeons & dragons style picture. A knight in plate armour with sword and shield, wearing a blue cloak. He fights a pair of skeketon warriors, armed with rusted blades, and wearing corroded chainmail...

D&D General What is your favorite d&d world's one unique thing.

Classic Dragonlance - post War of the Lance and before the awful Chaos War nonsense. Krynn felt more romanticized fantasy over traditional dungeon crawling. That appealed so much to younger me for some reason. After they made sweeping changes the setting lost everything to me though.

D&D General Hit Points are a great mechanic

I fully agree. In all the games I have played nothing works as well as the D&D hit point system. Easy to keep track off and doesn't hurt the brain.

PSA: Don't Let Orcs Loose in Your Fantasy Human World

For a very long time, I was always of the view point that orcs were a monster race. You couldn't play one because the moment any civilized person saw you approaching their town or village, you'd be the enemy. That changed coming back to D&D with the new edition. I allow half elves under the elf...

D&D General Who else was resistant to Eberron for awhile before falling for it?

I don't like magic as technology and Eberron turns that dial up to 11. That is what I don't like. My own homebrew world has artifice and airships, and there are elements of the delayed Eberron book that will work for me. Eberron as a setting doesn't do it.

D&D General Why wouldn't you run a Dark Sun game?

For me, it's a bit of an odd one. I love the setting but it's the mechanics over time. I played a lot of Dark Sun under 2nd edition (under two different DM's) and ran a couple campaigns myself. When we came to try it under 3.X and Pathfinder, the nature of the system meant that it didn't feel...

D&D General D&D is now Steampunk (poll)

It's an interesting read. I think my view of D&D was coloured by what brought me into D&D, namely Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, the old animated Lord of the Rings and fantasy movies like Clash of the Titans. Fantasy was medieval or classic fantasy and science fiction was (athough something I...

D&D General D&D is now Steampunk (poll)

It hasn't been medieval fantasy since 2nd edition unfortunately. Steampunk is close to what it appears as now but even that isn't quite right, but it is what I voted for. To me, these days D&D resembles something akin to Runeterra from League of Legends over medieval or steampunk fantasy.

D&D 5E (2024) 5e GMs: Do/Have/Would You Start Above 1st Level? (Note: Cannot change your vote.)

1st level every time. Under previous editions we have tried starting at 3rd but it is unpopular with my group. My players and I feel that you lose out on a better understanding of your character and it's capabilities to jump up, especially in a campaign where you start higher than that...

What Lost, Abandoned or Short Lived TTRPG would you like to see get a re-issue and new support?

A games store I worked at a fair few years back, had a single copy. I read it once or twice on quiet days and it seemed like potential fun but I never got chance to try it.
