D&D General 5e System Redesign through New Classes and Setting. A Thought Experiment.

It was easy (for the writers), but I take issue with being neat. Quite cludgy IMO.

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

Casters like casting spells. Why should they be ok with casting fewer of them?

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

Yeah, that would (and occasionally does) frustrate me. I want to run a somewhat (fantasy) realistic game where challenges exist and might get you if you're not careful, or lucky. Cakewalks bore me from either side of the screen.

I was more thinking options. Unfortunately 5.5 was designed without any.

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

I know I've said this before, but so long as enough people keep buying it, WotC isn't motivated to make changes.

Fair enough. Does that mean that you haven't experienced the problems others have enumerated in this thread, or that you just aren't bothered by them?

Yeah, they were pretty clear about that at the time.

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

This is what I'm trying to say. You don't have to abandon one demographic to go after another.

Unsurprisingly, I hate marketing. But, what are you going to do? Not look at anything?

Yup. That's what the reaction roll is for. Social stuff with potential foes is definitely part of it. Not the one who said otherwise, incidentally.

Like everything else, it varies by group, but I believe the intended playstyle was avoidance when possible. Getting the treasure/xp without getting killed was optimal by my reading.

Fair enough. I shouldn't be posting right now anyway. Bad mood. I apologize for upsetting you.

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

If you didn't like Level Up, do you think I would object to you saying so? People have done so, and I can take it. In the abstract, what you're saying is no one should discuss something they don't like, because someone who does like it might take it poorly. You're welcome to like whatever you...

At this point, that's true. Wasn't always the case. I suppose you're right though.

Very funny, but it doesn't address the growing out of part of my post.

You know, it is possible to market to more than one demographic simultaneously.

While I see this as pretty hyperbolic if you're referring to my behavior, it sounds very much like you're telling me to stop expressing my feelings.

Are the products in question supposed to be "grown out of"? Are we supposed to stop playing (and buying) when we cease to be teenagers? I'm pretty sure that's the case with Saturday Morning Cartoons. Not so much with D&D. And it's the demographic they stop caring about, the one I've been a part...

Experience with End of the World?

I picked up some of the books for inspiration and maybe play, but eventually dumped them for being far too narrative for my tastes (hard to convert), and the setting detail wasn't special enough to make up for it.
