D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

So, do Fighters and yet no one has really come forward and said that a Fighter should use magic to deal with magical monsters. Why do the Fighters get to ignore this requirement? :p And what about the Rogue and the Barbarian?

D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

It might also depend on whether the setting is a Low Magic setting or a High Magic setting. If you were role-playing in a low magic setting, the Ranger would be spell-less and rely more on their skills and wilderness training.

D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

Just out of curiosity, but what about the spell-less Fighter? Shouldn't they know magic as well? They're combat experts who will find themselves dealing with magical opponents at some point in their adventuring after all.

D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

I am guessing that Laser Llama borrowed this class feature when he was designing his version of the Ranger class back in 2022. :) Ranger's Quarry You focus your senses to hunt as a predator of the wild. Also at 2nd level, you can use a bonus action to mark one creature you can see as your...

D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

I can't help but feel that Batman is a bit of a multiclasser here. In addition to being a Ranger, he might have a couple levels in Rogue as well. His title of World's Greatest Detective could be covered by the Rogue's Inquisitive subclass. https://dnd5e.wikidot.com/rogue:inquisitive

D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

Why would removing the ability to cast spells from the Ranger affect 5e's magic system as a whole? As for magic being the number one solution to any problem in D&D, it's not. The majority of problems that a party can run into during an adventure can be solved through role-playing.

D&D General Dragonborn as Kobolds: Yea or Nay?

Ardlings, from what I can remember about them, hailed from the Beastlands. The Guardinals hailed from Elysium and they were present in both 2e and 3e. But you are right, their intro was something of a confused mess. They were supposed to be the opposites of the Tieflings, even though the latter...

D&D General Dragonborn as Kobolds: Yea or Nay?

They could have just brought in an official 5e version of the Guardinals and Guardinal-descended Aasimar for the job. ;) I would have been for this.

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

The difference between a player saying to the group "Trolls are weak to fire" and the same player saying, "My character shouts 'Trolls are weak to fire' is knowledge. If you are an avid D&D player, you are going to own a Monster Manual and will probably have spent a certain amount of time...

D&D General Dragonborn as Kobolds: Yea or Nay?

Level Up has two anthro canid races- the Garoul and the Madrai. https://a5e.tools/rules/garoul https://a5e.tools/rules/madrai The first are the descendants of werewolves and the majority of them resemble anthro wolves.

D&D General Dragonborn as Kobolds: Yea or Nay?

Agreed. :) There are several heritages in Level Up where the heritage in question has two monster types instead of one. There are several species in 5e that could (and should) have two types. ;)

D&D General Dragonborn as Kobolds: Yea or Nay?

Since Kobolds are now of the Dragon type in 2024D&D, will the Dragonborn likewise be reclassified as Dragons? ;)

D&D General Dragonborn as Kobolds: Yea or Nay?

Maybe. If they were written up to be something like the Tatsumi species in Ryoko's Guide to the Yokai Realms, it could work. The Tatsumi species is dimorphic with one half of the race being the Koi-like Nishikin and the other half resembling an Asian version of the Dragonborn, the Ryujin. During...

D&D General Dragonborn as Kobolds: Yea or Nay?

The Midgard setting from Kobold Press had a similar rite called the Rite of Draconic Ascension. It was used to transform non-draconic individuals into one of five Dragonkin subspecies in 5e (Flame, Wind, Wave, Stone, and Soldier).

D&D General Dragonborn as Kobolds: Yea or Nay?

True. It's quite possible for the Ritual of Rebirth to be co-opted in order to produce Dragonborn who resemble other dragon types such as Chromatic, Metallic and Gem (more if you include the dragon types in PF1). I haven't seen one yet. Though I did come across how the Urds came to be in the...

D&D General Dragonborn as Kobolds: Yea or Nay?

The Dragonborn in 3e's Races of the Dragon were very different from the Dragonborn in 4e and 5e in that they were originally members of other species who had heeded the call of Bahamut during the Dragonfall War with Tiamat. Those individuals who became Dragonborn would undergo the Rite of...

D&D General D&D Releases New Japanese Campaign 'Oni’s Right Hand'

A Naruto TTRPG would be nice. :) Currently there is a homebrewed version of it on D&D Wiki. Shinobi World (5e Campaign Setting) - D&D Wiki With a Shinobi class. ;) https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Naruto:_Shinobi_(5e_Class)

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

It could have been a two-way street. Think of the number of physicists today who grew up playing D&D.
