D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Since he mentioned 4e, he could be talking about roles such as Defender, Striker, Controller and Leader. Back in 4e, a Wizard was an Arcane Controller. Sorcerers and Warlocks were Arcane Strikers.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Them being WoTC and EN Publishing? I certainly think the latter has done a better job at providing different roles, weaknesses and strengths that meet my class fantasies. Does EN Publishing meet everyone's class fantasies? Most likely not, which is why we players are drawn to the work of a...

And some of those class features offer more than one option for an extra tad of customization.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

If A5e wasn't 5e based, it wouldn't be backwards compatible enough to entice some 5e players into giving it a try and maybe even liking it better. If an A5e Fighter has features that cover Exploration and Social Interaction as well as Combat, isn't that better than having them focusing on just...

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Which classes are you referencing here with regards to the three pillars? True, Wilderness Mystique appears to be the only Social Interaction feature for the A5e Ranger. The 2014 Ranger and the 2024 Ranger have no Social Interaction features whatsoever. Just features for the Combat and...

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

That's only because each class in 5e put more of its' focus on one or two of the pillars, and not on all three of them in terms of class features. As for the rejiggering part, Level Up has already done it. ;)

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Truth. WoTC really needs to do than just talk about Exploration and Social Interaction. It needs to have them as mechanical features in each of its' classes.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Which is probably why 5e2024 has tried to place more emphasis on the two other pillars of gameplay, social interaction and exploration. The combat pillar deals heavily with the mechanics. How hard you hit, how well you make a saving throw, etc. Social interaction deals with role-playing your...

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Does this make a character who multiclasses into sorcerer, a mutate? ;)

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Level Up has a number of lesser schools of magic where you could, for instance, be an Air Wizard by simply collecting a number of spells belonging to the Air 'school' of magic. Lesser Schools of Magic: acid, affliction, air, arcane, attack, beasts, chaos, cold, communication, compulsion...

D&D General Dark Sun as a Hopepunk Setting

They might suspect or even know the monstrosity of the Sorcerer Kings. The question is what they can do about it when the only life they have ever known is the one under a Sorcerer King's rule. The only ones who try to stand up are the ones who become adventurers. It's their Destiny. ;)

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Pathfinder 1st Edition really went into this with its' Sorcerous Bloodlines. Maybe a little too much as just about any highly magical creature could sire a Sorcerer bloodline in that RPG.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

https://dnd5e.wikidot.com/sorcerer Sorcerers carry a magical birthright conferred upon them by an exotic bloodline, some otherworldly influence, or exposure to unknown cosmic forces. No one chooses sorcery; the power chooses the sorcerer. Wizard- chooses to wield the power while experimenting...

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

It depends on which book you're looking at and how it influenced you from that point on. The 3e PHB says this, the 5e PHB says that. Which book are you referencing?

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Not necessarily. A character who becomes bestowed with magic later in life could be the result of someone's latent sorcerous ability emerging. As a result, the character decides to multiclass into the sorcerer class sometime after 1st level.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

D&D's Wizard is something of an arcane 'scientist'. When they aren't adventuring, they're experimenting and crafting spells that produce a number of different effects. All of which involve a lot of trial and error to get right at some point in time. A D&D Sorcerer otoh is someone whose...

D&D General Dark Sun as a Hopepunk Setting

They did use themselves as raw material. The Blue Age Halflings used the power of the Pristine Tower and the Obsidian Lens to transform themselves into the species of Athas' Green Age. I think this was mentioned in the final book of the Prism Pentad series.

D&D General Dark Sun as a Hopepunk Setting

One culture from the Manual of Adventurous Resources: Complete, the Desert Hierarch, would be a likely shoo-in for Dark Sun. Another would be the Elemental-Bound culture.
