D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I see you are a fan of the "flurry of misses" style monk that made them such a beloved class in 3e...

Dungeons & Dragons to Release Lorwyn: First Light, a New Digital Expansion Based on Magic: The Gathering World

The Witchlight Carnival can travel to anywhere in theory, but they avoid Ravenloft specifically since that's where the OTHER carnival operates primarily (though it also seems to travel the multiverse) and if the two carnivals ever meet again, they have to switch owners (something both carnivals...

Dungeons & Dragons Provides Guidance on How to Run Heroes of the Borderlands As More Traditional Campaign

I mean, using a turnip with a coal in it is the earliest way to make a jack-o'-lantern, but I wouldn't call it "more traditional" than the pumpkin version...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Please don't introduce a body injury system into D&D. I've never seen a system where death, dismemberment or permanent injury isn't always hurting players far more than it ever makes things fun.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

The problem is these two elements cancel each other out. I have my golf bag full with my dragon slaying sword, giant slaying axe, and undead slaying mace that I save ONLY for those types of fights due to the chance of breakage. Then I get fireballed by a wizard, roll poorly and lose them all...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

A fine balance to be sure. There is a lot of antagonism towards the idea of high magic/bountiful magic items in D&D (the Monty Haul scenario) which is hilarious since one of the hallmarks of D&D is be up to your eyeballs in +1 swords. You'd have to create an expectation that while you won't be...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Easier in theory than practice. Ok. My greatsword breaks. I grab the mace off the floor. I recalculate my attack (PB + Str) and damage (1d8 + STR). But wait, I also now add in the +2 damage from dueling, but I no longer can use great weapon master to get my PB to damage. Further, I no longer use...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

The problem i see is that those crazy weapon swaps slow down the game. Each time you switch weapons, you have to recalculate your attack bonus (based on on, str or dex, fighting style, mastery, feats, magical bonus) and damage (ditto). That's a lot of work to do on the fly. If a fighter goes...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I'm pretty sure that was a Jackie Chan routine.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Then again, I find the micromanaging of resources boring in a TTRPG. Tracking rations, arrows, or potions is the most boring part of RPGs and something video games are far better at than human DMs. That's a me thing though.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

It happens when the player does not assume they will have a steady stream of replacements. If you have a steady source of income, you are willing to spend money on things. If you don't, you hoard your money and only spend on absolute necessity. The same is true in game of magic. If magic...

D&D 5E (2024) Did Vampires just become more of a problem?

"Also: vampires were always a problem." - Van Richten

D&D 5E (2024) Did Vampires just become more of a problem?

I'm using the Elder Scrolls argument: different strains of vampirism affect different types of creatures.

Dungeons & Dragons to Release Lorwyn: First Light, a New Digital Expansion Based on Magic: The Gathering World

That ruins the whole point of dark gifts. They can happen to anyone and at anytime. They aren't tied to a profession or lifestyle. They can happen from tragedy, circumstance, or favors from the Dark Powers or their minions of darkness. They aren't tied to level, you aquire one when the story...

Dungeons & Dragons to Release Lorwyn: First Light, a New Digital Expansion Based on Magic: The Gathering World

It's been a hot minute since I've read Theros. Which ones are bad? I recall the one that pretty much makes you a warforged and the oracle one.

ToV Other than "It's not made by WotC", what's the elevator pitch for Tales of the Valiant?

"Did you like Pathfinder but wish they made a 5e clone instead of PF2e? Try TotV".

Dungeons & Dragons to Release Lorwyn: First Light, a New Digital Expansion Based on Magic: The Gathering World

It's usually a trade down. You can take a feat with a warlock invocation, but I would not let someone take any warlock invocation with just a feat (the Tasha feat that does limits you to a very small selection and 2024 limits this even further). Divine Gifts are strictly better than feats, so...

Dungeons & Dragons to Release Lorwyn: First Light, a New Digital Expansion Based on Magic: The Gathering World

The power level is higher than an origin feat, but at the cost of a drawback. They are more like 1.75x a feat plus a .5 drawback. You edge out just slightly ahead, depending on the gift. More importantly is you can have a dark gift and an origin feat. And origin feats are usually tied to...

Source? Dark Gifts aren't feats and are quite a bit more powerful. I assume they will be new feats.

Dungeons & Dragons to Release Lorwyn: First Light, a New Digital Expansion Based on Magic: The Gathering World

Lorwyn is planar but they are linking it via the Moonshaes. It's as linked to Faerun as Barovia was due to Curse of Strahd. The 80s kids have been setting jumping for a bit. Technically they left the cartoon Realm (not that it has much development anyway) and they are chilling in the Sword...
