WotC Hasbro CEO Chris Cox, "I would say that the underlying thesis of our D&D business is all about digital,”

Digital has been the strategy for years now, except a brief interlude, were 5e became a huge success. Many past forays, many of no or limited success. In the end, its books that make the most money for them. But finally having a huge AAA video game could finally change that.

D&D 5E (2024) Class spell lists and pact magic are back!

And thank the WotC for coming to their senses---or at least looking at the surveys. Also, there are plenty of other changes. Weapon mastery is clearly the big one, but when all is said and done, there will be lots of differences. Right now its looking like they will mostly be for the better.

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

My conclusion from the video is the play test process is working. EDIT: Seriously.

Digital compatibility and laying the foundations for online play was also a 3.0 design goal. 3.0 really bugs me. It felt close...so close. But 3.5 (and PF) did not move it in the direction it needed to move.

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

People who played WoW did try 4e, I remember them. They did not tend to stick. (The next gen did with 5e, but of course this is all anecdotal). The 3d VTT was clearly the centerpiece of this counter offensive. I saw it debuted to the public the first time I played 4e (and liked it). It just...

D&D 5E (2014) I Found an RPG Book at the Grocery Store

Safeway is the biggest grocery chain in the US, under its own name, at least that is not also other things (eg Walmart).

He put the gnome--and the gnome illusionist--into (A)D&D. No other "gamer" did that.

EGG also created a bunch of iconic adventures, monsters, spells, and magic items. No one else comes close.

If you were going to build a Studio Ghibli/Zelda-flavored campaign, what elements would you include?

For Ghibli: flight. There are a few exceptions for the particular movies, but being able to fly through some means is very important to be ghibliesque.

MCDM starts work on its RPG Monday!

Definitely an affinity for 4e ringing throughout the video...even if not a clone.

Definitely a thing. Companies seemed to be much more relaxed about their IP these days.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6 Survey is Open

The elemental monk? Of course the land-druid, so at least for some pre-existing ones, maybe with the biggest known issues, they did also have point by point.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 6 Survey is Open

As did I. It seemed to be less detail. But it wasn't just the ranger...some places they wanted more point by point comparisons then others.
