Who said anything about DMs? That statement applies equally across the board.

Don’t give me responsibility without giving me power.

    D&D 5E (2024) Why aren't you using 5e 2024?

Shoot for the moon! Do all of them at once!

D&D 5E (2024) Experienced DMs, how useful is the 2024 DMG to you?

I never said that anyone couldn’t say whatever they wanted. Just what I found amusing.

D&D 5E (2024) Experienced DMs, how useful is the 2024 DMG to you?

It's become a fun game for me to guess how many posts into a 5e thread will pass before the one of the same three people who have repeatedly stated that they don't play 5e, haven't read the books and have no plans to do so will pop in to say how much it sucks.

D&D 5E (2024) WotC Invites You To Explore the World of Greyhawk

No, they do not. It's just that YOU would like every race to have a homeland.

    D&D 5E (2024) I have the DMG. AMA!

Oooo, yeah. I gotta go see if I can get it in the App.

Right! Sorry. I'll stop my tangent.

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

Oh, definitely. It swings wildly from one end to the other in the different groups I've been in. When I run the game, it tends to be FAST because I get hyperactive and excited and speak fast and with energy. Which translates to the players for some reason. I've had combats that were over in two...

    D&D 5E (2024) I have the DMG. AMA!

She doesn't need to. She's got what she likes. Her friends have what they like. They've tried D&D 1e (and also 2e, but not much). It's... interesting to them. But not compelling. They'd rather tell their kinds of stories with their kind of game. It's only old people like us who proclaim that...

    D&D 5E (2024) I have the DMG. AMA!

She and her friends are exactly the same way with D&D. They've got what they like. They're liking 2024 even more! When I got them to play some of my older editions of D&D (notably 1e), they were tolerant of the Old Guy showing off one of his favorite childhood games. ... And then they went back...

I used to really like Chef Boyardee Beefaroni. But I think they changed the recipe or my tastes changed or something and I don't care for it much anymore. My daughter loves Chef Boyardee Beefaroni. Thinks it's very, very tasty. She has no interest in finding and consuming "classic" cans of...

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

@Emerikol and @EzekielRaiden , Might want to be careful with this Democracy tangent. Paul Farquhar and Yaarel already got redtexted and booted for going on about it. I like you two's on point posts and would be disappointed if you both got booted as well.

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

LoL. That’s a bit stronger than my actual thoughts. I’m not that… complex and far more devious!. Mostly, I figured if I gave in this time, next time we’d play what I wanted… and we did. And I got to try out recipes that I’d been dying to cook but, as I live basically alone, never got to try...

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

My friends wanted to play FATE. I have NO fun playing FATE. None. The mechanics of FATE actively work to the detriment of my fun. So, did I say we had to play something else or change FATE so it was more palatable for me? No, I did not. Instead, I told them that I’d be happy to host the game. I...

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

Myself, I think the reason there are far fewer DMs than Players is because DMing takes more work than just playing one character and the vast majority of players just wanna show up and play for a few hours as a break from the mundane. Which I think is awesome! But… DMing just requires more...

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

The consequences is usually that they’ll be treated as an oddity which can lead to distrust with the peasants, getting stared at, equipment that doesn’t fit, not able to blend into a crowd, etc., etc. In my 40+ years of gaming, the odd man out is usually not interested in dealing with that...

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

Isn’t it more “our (the rest of the group’s) way or the highway?” I think I’m going to bow out. Nothing against you, Yaarel. Hopefully, I’m not coming across too dickish. But I haven’t had nearly enough sleep to keep all the threads separate in my foggy brain. Gonna quit before I get too far...

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

Oh, sure. I get that. But I’m the DM who’ll go, “Yeah, that’s not what I’m interested in running. Who’s running the next campaign? Dave’s gonna run Greyhawk?! Cool! I got a character that’ll fit right in! Woot!” I’m interested in having fun and playing is just a fun as DMing!

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

I will usually let a player play just about any kind of character. But will always preface it with, “mmm, Ok. If you’re willing to live with the consequences.” Unless it really doesn’t fit in the world (Star Wars in Star Trek, Chocolate in Peanut butter, Ham on Rye… Where was I?) What I’ve...
