D&D 5E (2014) How We Beat the HD, HotDQ, Spoilers

This just got weird and personal. You may not have meant it to, but it did. If I'm carrying a weapon and choosing to attack the person who is aware of me and challenged me to one on on combat, then I'd probably call it a duel. And if I'm mugged, I'd probably call it a mugging. I like the...

D&D 5E (2014) How We Beat the HD, HotDQ, Spoilers

My players would enjoy this significantly less than the module as written. They hate when an NPC is able "box text" escape. A heroic duel against a superior foe to save the lives of some innocents? They'll enjoy that. Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragonborn and Tieflings, post-Sundering.

Heresy is just so much more personal than infidel, too. One is an infidel because of what one believes. One is a heresy because of what one is. Fantastic. We shall steal from each other and both be the better for it. :) Thaumaturge.

Ooooh, I really like these two. Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragonborn and Tieflings, post-Sundering.

Funny. I actually had to reread that. I originally read that as "Does it matter? The dragonborn will be dead in 3 rounds..." Because of...plot...stuff. I even launched into a defense of why it would matter even though the PC would go down quickly. :) At least once in the adventure, the PC is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragonborn and Tieflings, post-Sundering.

On a related note, I'm going to have any half-dragons that interact with the party call the party's dragonborn names. What are good racial slurs for a half-dragon to call a dragonborn? (Should this be its own thread?) I've already got: lizardborn, diluted, little lizard man. Any other ideas...

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone who got an mm at Gencon want to offer up spoilers to us?

Huh. Yeah, I looked in the index. The problem is I looked for ogrillon, but they're under "Half-Ogre". And I didn't think to look there. Ogres mate with: humans, hobgoblins, bugbears, or orcs to produce half-ogres. (They eat: dwarves, halflings, or elves). Human mothers usually die during...

    D&D 5E (2014) Battlemats?

I love to talk about my table, thanks for asking. :) It takes a while, yeah. It took us almost exactly a year (placed our order at Gen Con 2013, got it the week after Gen Con 2014) to get ours, and that was with us getting bumped up in the queue by 3 months (I don't know the reason). Much...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragonborn and Tieflings, post-Sundering.

This is how I'm ruling it at my table. My one dragonborn PC in HotDQ is playing a character who was away from home on a mission during the Sundering, and lost his family. Dragonborn in my FR are a people without a land. A diaspora of dragonborn looking for their place in the world. If we get a...

D&D 5E (2014) How should I lead my players from Phandalin to Greenest?

I second this. You'll have to scale down the scope of the raid on Greenest, perhaps, but it should mostly work as written. Thaumaturge.

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else feel individual initiative is more trouble than it's worth?

I've recently started using the Chris Sims method. I stole it from his twitter. It has worked out well so far. I'm able to avoid clumping and such. Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm incapacitated, but I can move just fine.

I'd say a mobile potted plant is no more overpowered than a stationary one. (But, yes, your point is generally true.) Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) Meld into Stone - easy long rests mid-dungeon?

Now, he'd be surprised that he didn't pause the TV, and then he'd rewind the show. Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) Preview: Intellect Devourer

I don't usually read many after action reports, because they get too lengthy. I'd read this, though. I expect it to be quite short. :] Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm incapacitated, but I can move just fine.

In 5B? Nothing merely incapacitates. It's either like Mistwell quoted, or incapacitated is part of another condition (stunned, unconscious, petrified, or paralyzed). I can't as easily do a text search of the PH(B). :) Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm incapacitated, but I can move just fine.

The funniest part is in the section on knocking people out: So when you want to incapacitate, you actually don't want to incapacitate, because incapacitation isn't incapacitating enough. :uhoh: Though incapacitation is a sub-status of unconscious. Thaumaturge.
