    D&D 5E (2014) Battlemats?

I've spent the last year or so deprogramming my group from needing battlemats. And then I got my Geek Chic table. So, yeah, we'll be using mats, but mostly for big events. Thaumaturge.

D&D 5E (2014) Steve Winter Clarifies a few HotDQ Issues.

And note that a number of the things I quoted are addressing issues that aren't errors: how perception worked, how they intended the castle to be run, or if errata would be collected somewhere. And many of the errors are fairly minor. I'm glad to have it, though. I'll sit down and update my...

D&D 5E (2014) Steve Winter Clarifies a few HotDQ Issues.

Over on the WotC boards, here. He's going over missing info and the like. EDIT: I've added it here. I suppose he won't mind me copying his stuff. Thaumaturge.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Initiate, High Elf Cantrip and Proficiency Bonus

Come on, now. The material component for minor illusion is just fluff. Thaumaturge.

D&D 5E (2014) Shields and Somatic Components: Will you play it "as is?"

The guy playing a bard in one of my campaigns brought this up. We came up with a "parrying tamborine". He holds it in his off-hand, can use it as a focus, and can use it to parry blows, which confers a +2 to AC. His hands are both full, so he can't really manipulate objects or anything without...

D&D 5E (2014) Difference between critical hits and automatic hits.

Well, I can't win them all, I suppose. Speaking of which, the kids really enjoyed the Swiss ski trip from "Uncle" Talath. Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) On Falling

Of course, if you happen to forget, there is always this nifty handbook: Fire and Brimstone. The rules are OGL and compatible with any system. Here's a sneak peak: But there are multiple examples of play to help DMs get a feel for the nuances. Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) So who is playing 5E?

I'm DMing HotDQ, which started last night and was a roaring success. I'm DMing a convert on the fly version of Ruins of Undermountin, which we've delved into a couple of times and enjoyed. And I'm starting a LMoP google hangouts table with my in-laws (3 couples, husbands and wives). I...

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone who got an mm at Gencon want to offer up spoilers to us?

In my conversion of Ruins of Undermountain I'm running I unleashed one of these on the party. So good. For me. CR 2. Very low AC. DC 15 to spot one that hasn't moved. Good amount of hitpoints. If you walk into one without seeing it (/cackle) your save to avoid being eaten is at disadvantage...

    D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen - a solid D effort.

Not true. Please see my previous post where I quoted the adventure. It talks about the dragon killing the PCs, which is not quite "total plot immunity". The dragon can, and will, kill foolhardy PCs. It says so. In the adventure. Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen - a solid D effort.

:uhoh: Um... I wouldn't note that because I didn't really read the OP. I kinda skimmed and then jumped in. Fortunately, I was replying to someone else's comments. :) I can see what you're saying. For me the dragon's motivations are spelled out clearly enough that him leaving after...

So then it doesn't appear to be a problem. Groups that need a level of impermanence (Encounters) are making a trade. They get less verisimilitude in exchange for a game that meets at a time/place convenient for them. Like you said, everyone else can adapt to the situation on the ground, so to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen - a solid D effort.

If that's the way you'd play it as a DM, then I can't argue with you. Me? I'd take into account how much other assistance the players had offered. If they helped but were just gassed when the dragon attacked, Nighthill would be thankful and understanding for their other support. If they...
