D&D 5E (2014) Slow Rests: Anyone Tried It?

Not yet. I mentioned it to my group once. The other guy who started in 2e was interested. Those who started in 3e and 4e thought I was speaking martian. I'll probably force the issue at some point, but not yet. I, too, look forward to reading reports. It seems like wizards and clerics would be...

D&D 3.x Play Board Games Review: "5e really feels like the best from 2e, 3e and 4e."

I think more tactical play like 3rd and 4th presented: 1-2-1 diagonal movement, more causes of opportunity attacks, maybe more frequent opportunity attacks, and other things that rachet up the tactical/mini-based nature of combat. Thaumaturge.

D&D 5E (2014) Thread: Your thoughts on the 5th. Edition Player's Handbook classes?

I think they tried some radical things in the playtest, and were told "nope, that's too radical". So they made classes similar, mechanically to what they'd had before. I wouldn't be surprised if we get the playtest sorcerer eventually as something else. That class was cool Thaumaturge.

D&D 5E (2014) I think we can safely say that 5E is a success, but will it lead to a new Golden Era?

Yes. But we don't know about the long term, do we? Thaumaturge.

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone who got an mm at Gencon want to offer up spoilers to us?

Then I'm almost afraid to answer. "Born into the mortal realm by demonic rites...Minotaurs are the dark descendants of humanoids transformed by the rituals of cults...unknown to all but their highest-ranking leaders, these mystery cults are creations of the demon lord Baphomet...can breed true...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls Interview with the Escapist

To expand on what's above, Mearls and company realized through 3rd and 4th edition that writing stealth and hiding rules that had no loopholes created text that read very oddly and were quite complicated. They decided to use the approach of writing simple rules in natural language and letting...

    D&D 5E (2014) Daze of edition past?

I love everything about that whole piece. The names, the ages, everything. Fantastic. Now, I may actually have to do this. Ghruumattae.

    D&D 5E (2014) Daze of edition past?

If the original, even most of the original, players are with you, that sounds awesome. You can ramp up the difficulty in crazy ways, and let the "future" characters fend that stuff off without tipping off the "past" characters. Very cool. And expand it to every edition the group has played. Go...

    D&D 5E (2014) Daze of edition past?

I saw the thread title and thought this was going to be a write up of an idea I've been kicking around for a while: a campaign where the players make the same characters using the rules of every edition and then use the appropriate edition for the things/levels each edition did best. And then...

    D&D 5E (2014) Vicious Mockery

Oh just being silly. I know your overall stance on 4e, and it's nice to see you liking a 4e creation that's been pulled forward. So many people seem to get locked into camps, and can't express appreciation for anything from the other camps. You did. I thought I'd respond with silliness. Because...

Same here. I'm back to opening threads in multiple tabs and waiting for them to load. Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) Quick Start Viability

I did a session with a bunch of novice players right after the Starter Set came out. I explained Inspiration and pretty much nothing else. I let them pick their characters based on simple descriptions, let them read their character sheets, and off we went. We spent 30 minutes tops in setup...

D&D 5E (2014) Raw ability checks - proficiency or not?

I don't believe so except for certain situations, like Remarkable Athlete or the like. Thaumaturge.

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone who got an mm at Gencon want to offer up spoilers to us?

Ah. In that case a couple of posts from a very similar thread might be helpful. :p That's about it, really. :) Thaumaturge. B-)

    D&D 5E (2014) I NEED A WARLORD

Looks right to me. A fighter with Protection style and the Sentinel feat is a pretty good defender. Decoupling OA from reactions is a nice touch, too. That would very much deliver the 4e feel. Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) I NEED A WARLORD

I'd say for a real 4e feel, you'd want to make short rests 5-10 minutes and start at 3rd or 4th level. You do those two things, and I'm guessing the Battlemaster gets much closer to what you want. Can't xp. Thaumaturge.

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone who got an mm at Gencon want to offer up spoilers to us?

There isn't a picture of a rogue Modron, sadly. Just pick which kind he is, and go with that. These Modrons are the ones used in the book. Thaumaturge.

It's ok. The monk took Way of Shadow, so you couldn't find it. Thaumaturge.

D&D 5E (2014) Random Thread (See what I did there...?)

If you already have an idea of the character you're going to play, they're unnecessary. If you haven't figured out who the character is yet, they're invaluable. There are wonderful quirks and contradictions all throughout those charts, and that really helps flesh out character ideas. Thaumaturge.
