Strixhaven Review Round-Up – What the Critics Say

The original Strixhaven review said it was close to getting an A- despite a lengthy section on the many disappointments with the book. The Ravenloft book that had no unique stats for any of it's Darklords was rated as the best 5e book ever. I've just taken D&D products getting inflated...

Strixhaven Review Round-Up – What the Critics Say

Can confirm. I don't know what they were thinking, did they expect people who were playing the game whose main mode of conflict resolution is righteous violence would be against having a dangerous setting? What I want from a setting is calls to adventure, context for what is there to fight and...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E - does it play better than it looks at first glance + guides/resources for new DMs

Something you should be aware of is the Link Actor Data setting on tokens. From the Actor's character sheet you can access their prototype token and change whether or not the actor data is linked. If that box is not checked then each token will be it's own separate instance of that creature...

Paizo Pathfinder Publisher Paizo Has A New President

This is required for HIPAA compliance in the US. Even hinting at what the issue may be is a gross breach of confidence. I wouldn't read that much into it.

D&D 5E (2024) Is the 5E player base going to split?

I expect a majority of players to move to 5.5, and small but not insignificant minorities that stick with the old rules and those that change games altogether. If nothing else it will be the time for other publishers to have their work discovered, and many of them deserve more recognition. I...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E - does it play better than it looks at first glance + guides/resources for new DMs

If you want to use Foundry in that way I recommend simply having the PCs, NPCs and Hazards as tokens on a single, large landing page. From there it is fairly easy to apply conditions, feat and spell effects, monster ability effects, etc. Since all official content is already included in the...

Paizo Pathfinder Publisher Paizo Has A New President

What a charming anecdote. I've never met the guy but it sounds like he has the right experience and attitude. And having Lisa Stevens' seal of approval gives me confidence that the games and brands I like from Paizo are going to continue rolling; I can't ever imagine someone who doesn't...

    Does TSR3 Have Nazi Connections?

I really just don't want to hear any more news about TSR3. They are consistently pathetic, asinine losers that have no real relevance to the industry aside from having this brief possession of a recognizable trademark. Their lame attempts at confidence schemes and rage bait haven't produced...

Pathfinder 2E How is Pathfinder doing?

In a recent update video to the Foundry VTT PF2e system, system developer TMun shared with us that 40% of all tables at Paizocon this year are going to be using Foundry VTT. That's combining the in-person tables with the online tables. So if you ever wanted a statistic to back-up the generally...

    D&D 5E (2014) Don't make the game too weird

Very little honestly, but deliberately nonsensical adventures approach this for me. If I never have to play another Alice in Wonderland themed game I'll be fine. I can handle the strange settings, narratives and characters as long as they are cohesive. When I'm expected to just revel in...

D&D 5E (2024) The future of edition changes and revisions

I cannot possibly imagine that explicitly baiting fantasy race arguments will be Hasbro's marketing strategy of choice. If anything they've shown they just want to bury anything that might invite such controversy and pretend it doesn't exist. That must have been one of the factors motivating...

D&D 5E (2024) The future of edition changes and revisions

It would be impossible for me to say conclusively, I can only provide my own anecdotal experience. But I have always found the assumption that children are stupid and engage with things minimally or basically is largely incorrect. I suspect many people use someone's experience as a measurement...

D&D 5E (2024) The future of edition changes and revisions

These are two assumptions I want to push back against slightly, if only to highlight some of the nuance in the current D&D scene and why the game is experiencing explosive popularity. I run 5e professionally for kids sometimes, and I haven't noticed anything casual with their engagement in the...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond Will Delist Two Books On May 17th

So this is the prelude to the new core rules. This is going to be 4e Essentials all over again isn't it? I was already insulted they expected me to pay for an abridged version of content they already sold me in other books. It's nominally an update, but it's mostly just exclusions of text and...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E - does it play better than it looks at first glance + guides/resources for new DMs

Ah, Afflictions are kinda obnoxious. Same goes with Counteracting. Hopefully they'll be automated more soon so that I don't have to flip to those rules whenever they come up. Still, it's a minor blemish on an otherwise elegant rule-set.

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E - does it play better than it looks at first glance + guides/resources for new DMs

Thought I'd address this while I have my Foundry server up. I haven't had any issue with this since the VTT system takes care of it very well. Conditions can be applied easily by right clicking on a creature and applying one of the status effects manually, or by clicking and dragging an effect...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E - does it play better than it looks at first glance + guides/resources for new DMs

My players have been enjoying it, and I like running it. They just have to find the space to do their 10 minute recovery activities and then their good to go after a tough encounter. All of them are balanced for a party of 4. In general the easiest adjustment to do is to shift the level of...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E - does it play better than it looks at first glance + guides/resources for new DMs

I have heard lots of stories like this from Age of Ashes. If there's any bit of advice I can give for what to run as a PF2e GM, it's "don't run Age of Ashes." Pick literally any other Adventure Path. Abomination Vaults is most peoples favorite (including me), Strength of Thousands is also one...
