Or maybe ask if it's possible to post just the poll by itself, without comments.

D&D General Edition Experience - Updated Survey Results (Updated October 2025)

For just my own character, no. As DM or as player trying to mentally map the positions of everyone in the battle relative to each other, very much yes. The very few times I've ever tried totm gaming it inevitably broke down into arguments over specific positioning.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I'm doing it now. At low levels it was great - I saw loads of spells get cast that never otherwise saw the light of day. At high levels they've tended to fall back on the usual standby spells, though. Where it's really made a difference is that where a high-ish level MU with 33 spell points...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

If psionics are to be something that expands in scope as you level up as do spells then yes, the same problems will likely arise. I'm used to psionic systems where you (by random chance) get what you get if anything and that's it forever; your psionic abilities are 99% locked in. I have a hard...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

RPGs are different than any other category of game and yet they're still games. Casting limits are gamist-first, I won't dispute that. Thing is, what other not-too-complicated mechanism can you use to make it such that the casters don't render non-casters obsolete within the first half-hour of...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

We've run Clerics in our 1e-style games like that since about 1983. Silence and Spiritual Hammer get used quite a bit, situationally. Divinations, too - Augury and the like. I think I've seen Sticks to Snakes (either version) cast a grand total of once in the 40+ years I've been doing this...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Those styles being wargame and simulation, if I recall an earlier post? I see no reason why those can't blend quite well. Ditto dungeoncrawling and simulation; wilderness survival and simulation, etc. What doesn't blend well - and I'll freely admit this all day long - is simulation and...

D&D General Edition Experience - Updated Survey Results (Updated October 2025)

Curious: how did you referee or adjudicate all the push-pull-slide forced movement effects and terrain location and effects if running totm? Or did you bust out battlemats for combats only and run it totm the rest of the time?

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I've played in and run a mana pool (i.e. spell points) system for ages and found that while it works great at low levels it gets rather badly broken as the levels increase. That's why I went to wild-card (i.e. no pre-mem.) slots for my current campaign. Homebrew system and a work in progress...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Prior to 3e there were very few spells - mostly illusions - that weren't just fire and forget. Your spell had a set duration, and that's how long it lasted. Agreed, I've never liked pre-memorization. Meanwhile once the fighting stops the martials and other non-casters can just take a seat...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Somewhat, yes, as each homebrewer is going to fix it to suit their own tastes and table. I want the underlying framework to be well designed and rock solid, however, with enough discrete modular mostly-independent subsystems to allow me-as-homebrewer to mess with one element while not affecting...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

First, thanks for answering my question. Please allow me to lob in some more. :) So, less (or even no?) emphasis on exploration and-or downtime? OK. Being able to do "cool naughty word" right out of the gate is fine but then how would long-term advancement work? Or would this be...

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

If you're including adventures (e.g. Out of the Abyss) as supplements then what you say is pretty much ironclad true. But if you only include true supplements (e.g. Tasha's) as supplements then I'm not sure it's as ironclad as all that to say everyone who has the core three books buys them.

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

Further to this, the DMs who are skilled enough to easily handle the more complex rules are also quite likely skilled enough to tweak and-or modify the game on their own; meaning they too will have less need for WotC's official rules-tweaking supplements (though they'll probably gobble up any...

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

The bolded is a step too far for some*, who see the non-Prime Planes as entirely supernatural and see "nature" as being only what we can see around us on Earth translated to a fantasy setting. Robins are natural. Dragons are natural in the setting. The moons and stars are natural. Gladsheim...

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

Well, it's also "magical" if you take the presumption - as I do - that any form of healing other than by simple resting and-or actual medical care is and must be in some way magical, regardless whether the hit points being healed are meat or not.

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

There would have to be a curated and hard-coded list of what creatures these guys could turn into at what level, in order to avoid this problem.

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

If I'm designing a game system in hopes of reaching an audience greater than friends and family, I'm going to try my best to make that game be as general-use as possible; and leave it to individual tables to - maybe with help from some supplements or options - make it work for the specific style...

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

Sorry, but parties working to obtain an item by doing their very best to not obtain it goes back to the dawn of rpgs. :)

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

The very question in the thread title to me reads as being completely time-based, and could be synonymously rewritten as "what do you think of as newer ttrpg mechanics". This has nothing to do with whether those newer ttrpg mechanics are better, worse, or equal in comparison with what came before.
