D&D 5E (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

Perhaps Monk. Maybe paladin depending on how you see them. I would be good in an Everyman having an epiphany becoming a paladin. "Wait- it's not might makes right. Might for right!" Otherwise, yes, those are the only two that require formalized study for a specific time.

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

Around the 2/3rds mark I seem to remember that playing up the cosmopolitan nature of the City-State, and to present the setting as more progressive. It's been a hot minute since I saw the video, so I may be misremembering the comment.

D&D 5E (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

I figured that the rogue was the closest to the "everyman". They didn't fight well, but better than those that deliberately eschewed physical combat. They didn't know any magic, but could, eventually, puzzle out a scroll. It was easy to swap out some abilities for others. So, the dwarven...

D&D 5E (2024) What medievalesque skill name do you prefer, for machinery, architecture, math, physics?

I use Engineering for the building of (seige) engines, construction, and water management. It also gives some intuition about geomancy. The construction of fantastic machines, automatons, flame lances, &c., are Gearwrights, although Artifex and Wrightcraft are appealing words to use.

D&D General Would You Play High Level (12-15);Wiith Pre Generated Characters? Mostly 5.0/5.5 but theoretically any edition.

Sure. If it's a campaign I'm going to want to adjust things as I level up, and I have some specific class preferences, but I'm game. This assumes, however, that I know this person and have gamed with them in the past. If I trust them, sure. If I need to play a couple sessions with a PC I don't...

Which ghosts would make great pcs?

Captain Daniel Gregg, one of the last sea captains of the Age of Sail. Resistant to change, tough as nails, desires to leave his estate to form a retirement home caring for the less fortunate or crippled sea captains that come after him.

Goodman Games Offers Assurances About Judges Guild Royalties

The thing that pushed me over the line was his sincerity, having watched the video. Not everyone has time or inclination for that, certainly. Simple stubbornness doesn't ring true. And, I would certainly prefer this over GG having to cut a check to JG to break any potential contractual obligations.

Goodman Games Offers Assurances About Judges Guild Royalties

Well, Joe addressed nearly all my concerns. He acknowledged the problem. Apologized for not understanding the situation. He empathized, genuinely, I feel. Directly addressed the concern. Explained how the royalties would be handled. Explained how funds sufficient, short, or in excess would be...

Some of my kids saw it last week and loved it. I hope to catch it next week sometime.

D&D 5E (2014) What If Everyone Could Use Scrolls? (House rule)

What level does the spell take effect at? Can it vary by character level? Can the wizard scribe a fireball at 5th spell level of effect? NB: I think this is a great idea, although the rogue might want a shiny new ribbon for later.

What Mundane Details Are Important In Your Fantastical Game/World?

Some food and drink, local wines and liquors (Ophirian Yellow is sour, great for Summers and hot work). I comment on customs, sometimes. (Dvergar sew a small stone into their hat or helm to reflex a portion of their holy book - "While sheltering under my hand you shall enjoy my protection."...

    D&D General Limiting Utility Cantrips

The light cantrip makes an object glow. The fighter's breastplate, gauntlet, spearhead, and the like are common targets IMC. It frees up a hand. Maybe I don't understand your question.

D&D General Which edition handled alignment best?

Original- Alignment was the color of your banner more than anything else. Although, you could trust your Lawful ally more than your Chaotic one. Pick a side, there are three, and you're good to go.

D&D General Maps, Maps, Maps! Dungeons, Ruins, Caverns, Temples, and more... aka Where Dyson Dumps His Maps.

The Scavenger's Deep reminds me of Steamboat Rock in Washington state. It would be a perfect fit.

D&D 5E (2014) DM imposed restrictions to the game (+)

My campaign is curated, so there is a specific list of races, changed classes, and specific sub-classes that are available. I'm pretty open handed with feats as I see those as a good mechanism for flavoring or personalizing a character. I'm getting pretty soured on multi-classing, and am...

D&D General Do you transfer characters between campaigns?

It depends. In general, in the circles I gamed in, the DM knows that Bob spends time in Aphonion, but when you sit down to play in The Shardlands Bob may not be available. For the next three months of time in the Shardlands he's on a different plane. You'll have to make a new character. In three...

    D&D General Ships & spellcasters

Having spells like gust of wind might make it so your ship never gets into fireball range. Also, the average merchant may not have a mage on crew, but a naval ship carrying gold to the crown or pay to the colonial soldiers probably would. Keels, main masts, and figureheads are likely to be...

D&D General Do you transfer characters between campaigns?

I believe that Adventurer's League, starting with Adventures in Ravens Bluff, was an attempt to recapture that feeling as well as giving people who aged out of their High School or College gaming circles a similar experience. When I was involved a big draw was that you gained and maintained...

D&D General Do you transfer characters between campaigns?

Back in the day, absolutely. Characters migrated from my game, my friends, and to a local community center where there were four DMs running games every week. Lots of cross-planar shenanigans there. As long as it was a book race and class you were good. Sometimes your more potent or exotic magic...

D&D General Which 3.0/3.5 Prestige classes would make good 5e subclasses? (+)

Indeed. I still prefer PrC to subclasses, but I re-wrote the 5-6 that we used most often. Along with 2-3 PrCs for the foes. My troglodyte ooze cleric (I forget the official name of the PrC) was hilarious, especially when he used gelatinous cubes as "secret" doors.
