    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

One example I've seen is the radio room scene from Where Eagle's Dare. The spy climbs a wooden stair to a new floor, sets a case down, walks down a hallway pst a T-intersection, and ito a radio room to stab the radio operator. Potential stealth needs are arrival on the landing, passing by the...

    Bright moons

Physics with added magic. If I can have a method that follows physics, even with a little magical "help", that's preferred. Neat idea! Thanks. Cool ideas! Thanks. Good question! Yes, fungi make up a significant part of the diet. There are also farms where starlight is collected. There are...

    Bright moons

Right, but... That's what I was thinking. There can be significant radiation coming from the accretion disk. That might act with the magnetic field of the planet or the moons themselves. At a survivable distance, of course. If the radiation from the black hole's disk will be too diffuse at an...

    Bright moons

Light comes from the sun and is reflected by the moon. Thus we can see both as they follow their courses. How could we have visible, even bright, moons without a sun? Magic is allowed, but only as a facilitator and not foundationally. We can't just magic the moon to be bright. The sun is a...

D&D General Ysgard - How to use?

True, however, they are your enemies today, and perhaps allies tomorrow. Such is how I see the chaotic nature of that plane. "Eskar, you dog! How come you back here?" Crap... "Bevlin... I need to cross this pass to reach the the town of Hammerslay. Don't think to stand in my way, for I have in...

D&D General Ysgard - How to use?

There's a quote from RuneQuest / Glorantha that always stuck with me from the cult of Ernalda the Earth Mother- "Violence is always an option, but there is always another way." Ysgard typifies that statement to me. You can always bash your way through a problem, but it is not definitively the...

D&D 5E (2014) We should domesticate Rust Monsters

I'm going to have to look at the current write-up more closely. I remember BITD that they would consider bronze, but noble metals were beneath their notice.

D&D 5E (2014) We should domesticate Rust Monsters

I disagree. Iron ore would be like, oh, beets with iron or steel metal being refined sugar. That's why they're so eager to meet adventurers. They have candy!

We have Mez but not Nyca? Huh, too bad.

D&D General Differences Between Limbo And The Far Realm?

For me, Limbo is a sea of Ylem, the primordial substance all things are made of. Originally nearly all was Ylem, but as the planes were created it was consumed. Now, Limbo is what is left over along with much partially structured into a concrete element or form. Even so, there are rules that it...

They're not. They are infused with the element since they bound themselves to it to gain power. Purpose? Not sure.

How many character sheets is too many?

Personally, no more than two pages, a sheet front and back. For my 16th level wizard, I had a few more sheets than one. That included prepared spell lists, custom spells, estate layout, favor lists (owed and due), NPC hit list (and why), frenemies list (and why), and preferred restaurants and...

David Lynch: RIP and Ranked (A Celebration)

I saw Dune with my dad, we loved it. Lynch's vision matched his exceptionally well. Lost High was with Bill Pullman? That was one that I didn't get at all. Later, someone mentioned that David Lynch directed it, and that reframed my expectations for a second viewing. Enjoyed it that time.

    D&D 5E (2024) Just DMed my 1st session of 5.5. Healer's Kit!?!?!

Vague trivia - an ounce was described as a mouthful of liquid. A comfortable one, not maximal capacity. Which is why a liquor pour is two ounces. Two mouthfuls of liquor per serving. On topic: I remember in AD&D we would have people "bind wounds". A person would spend an action to prevent them...

A part of Map 15 is to the "outside"? Or does the tower reach up out of the mountain?

I think Jester had an adventure where simulacra started cascading.

    D&D 5E (2014) What high-level spells could warp society?

I've created a spell duration of "enduring" for some spells like continual light. While the spell is active you dont get it back. There are ways to get around that with appropriately priced foci that you cast the spell on instead, but the cheap way locks up the spell until it is dropped.
