    Draw Steel General Thread [+]

Always let them run with their bad decisions. It makes for far more interesting stories. Also, how else will they learn the system unless they face the consequences of their bad choices?

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I'm beginning to think similarly about "let people like things." While I 100% agree with the sentiment, it seems to mostly be used to just shut down any and all criticism no matter how valid. I get not going out of your way to crap on other people's joy, that's not what I'm talking about. "I...

OSR New edition of OSE in 2026 (updated with some links)

No, and yes. No, the AD&D additions span everything. Races, classes, monsters, spells, magic items, etc. Lots of AD&D content was added. Yes, the main chassis and rules are still 100% B/X. Gavin and Co modified anything that needed changing when they imported the AD&D content to OSE.

    Pulp RPGs General Thread [+]

The overlap of pulp heroes and superheroes is something people have been talking about for almost a century. Batman being a Shadow knock-off. Superman being at least initially a Doc Savage knock-off. Etc. The pulp heroes would be the equivalent to street-level superheroes using the superhero...

    Pulp RPGs General Thread [+]

I do as well. It’s the same difference between something being published in a comic book vs the story itself being in the superhero genre. Only more confusing because they use the same name. Published in a pulp magazine (cheap, low-quality paper) does not make something the pulp genre (gonzo...

Critical Role Tell me the selling points of Tal'Dorei / Wildemount, without mentioning Critical Role, Matt Mercer, etc.

As far as I know there are only three setting books. Tal’Dorei, published by Green Ronin. Out-of-print and wildly expensive on the secondary market. The book was originally published only two months before the actual play campaign finished, so it covered most of the campaign and could rely on...

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

Sure. I am not one of them. To me, the two italicized questions are all that matter. I have shelves filled with games that me and maybe a dozen other people world wide are interested in playing. I don’t need any more RPG books that will only ever collect dust.

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

Yep. Which also seems to render the question moot. Anyone wanting that novelty can already get it by looking at any one of the thousands of other RPGs. If something innovative but close to D&D is your jam, the OSR/NSR scenes have you well and truly covered. To say nothing of the mountain of...

OSR New edition of OSE in 2026 (updated with some links)

Same. That it was a pure B/X clone was the draw. I like the optional AD&D stuff that’s ported in with Advanced, but making that core and discontinuing the pure B/X clone removes the reason OSE even exists.

OSR New edition of OSE in 2026 (updated with some links)

This will be the interesting bit. If that’s the case they will need to come up with a new license or anyone publishing for their “new” game will be taking a risk.

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

It really is a weird one. “If the designers had telepathy and tailor made the game specifically for you and all your preferences to the letter to perfectly match your tastes, would you play it?” The only real answer is: “Yes, of course.”

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

It’s incredibly hard to satirize…all this. Any exaggeration you make today, no matter how wild, will be literally true next week. Also, 90% of everything is crap.

Critical Role Critical Role Campaign 4 Episode 4 is a High-Octane Rollercoaster

Just popping back in to say that no, Taliesin hasn't played a lot of Call of Cthulhu. At least that's what he says at the start of the Call of Cthulhu one-shot he ran a few years ago. I had no interest in Critical Role until I watched that one shot. Taliesin's grasp of the genre and the...

    Pulp RPGs General Thread [+]

The [+] is to keep things positive and prevent the same old, tired arguments about the style of play, genre, and time period. There are plenty of other threads to hate on games and play styles you don’t like. One of my all-time favorite genres is pulp adventure. Instead of doing a thread about...

I mean…Eberron. Robots. Lightning-powered trains. Airships. Etc. AC11. Book of Wondrous Inventions. A book filled with half-assed inventions like a submarine with windows. Various areas of Mystara / Known World / Hollow World have advanced technology. There’s crashed spaceships and an...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I’m not sure the 2-1/2-year-olds running around most fandoms would accept that the 4-year-olds are inherently “more of a fan” of the thing. Some of the conversations certainly reminds me of when my kid was a toddler though.
