What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

Aye! Or close... it's a prelim/preview version, without all the final art and a few other bits. And I'm sure there'll be a few more nips and tucks in the rules and writing too. But it's already a lovely 330 page tome. :)

    Friday Nonsense: Funniest Gaming Fails

It was the final game. Of the final arc. Of the epic campaign. That we had played over many months. The things were in motion. Everything was in place. The final battle was on. And it all hinged on firing a sort of arcane super cannon, carefully tuned specifically for pointed towards the...

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

OH! And also the pre-release for Tribes in the Dark, the revamped take on DP9's Tribe 8. Haven't read it all the way through yet.

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

I recently got Legends in the Mist and I am practically salivating to give it another run. (We half-played the ashcan edition.)

D&D General Wildly Diverse "Circus Troupe" Adventuring Parties

As a total aside, as someone who really enjoys 'taurs and who has written and released 'taurric rules for 4 separate editions of D&D, it is very delightful for me to read in this thread how many people want to play centaurs. :)

    Battletech RPG

While it may be less frequent, chases, or RP-based mech challenges could still happen. Gunnery too, like say a Robin Hood type tourney or you've stolen an Savannah Master and are in a mad dash through the streets of Solaris trying to stop a mobster boss and you have that one medium laser to try...

D&D General Wildly Diverse "Circus Troupe" Adventuring Parties

Good point, and worth highlighting the bit I, er, highlighted. From further comments on others here, it seems that often it may actually be more of a social concern (whether it be players who are all trying to steal the spotlight or characters who are all isolated and thus have less reason to...

    Battletech RPG

Personally I would bite the PCC go with Option B and the full PbtA method. Having to shift not just a single target number but a range has more of a cognitive load (7-9 becomes 8-10 becomes 10-12, etc). I'd rather keep the target number(s) the same and just change the base skill to it's own...

D&D General Wildly Diverse "Circus Troupe" Adventuring Parties

For me, "circus troupe" is nothing new. I've been playing for 35+ years, and even "back in the day" we had parties that were filled with what we might call unusual. I played a centaur back in the early days of a 2e game. We've also had parties of, say, all dwarves. It's run the gamut. And...

Describe your last rpg session in 5 words

D!oh, I read that as "take" the wrong books instead of "wake" the wrong books... you sir are 100% correct. Note to self for the future: always let the slumbering tomes lie. :D

Describe your last rpg session in 5 words

Almost! And you'd think it would be the librarian that would come at us with their two handed letter opener, but no, it was pages from surrounding books that took form as a giant serpent and attacked... Oh, I've definitively played that adventure before. :)

    Battletech RPG

Hmm, taking a standard, say piloting roll of 5+ being a clean/full success (83.3% success), and flipping it around to figure out the plus to make it a PbtA 10+, would yield a modifier of +5. Higher than most PbtA modifiers, but then BT doesn't have partial success, so making that a +3 or so...

Various Solutions For Tabletop Dungeon Terrain

Ah, Hextech, nice! Got a chance to see it in action at a con back in Jan. (I've printed some terrain bits over the past couple of years but haven't had a chance to use it in a game yet, alas.) I second this! We gave this a try a close to 10 years ago and it worked well except for the size...

    Battletech RPG

Ah, MW2e. At least to their credit, they did say that Natural Aptitude was so, let's call it over the top, that the GM may want to forbid its use in the game. And then in the archetypes they had one of the characters with it. :P My fav was when I noticed that I could create a Clan Aerojock...

    Battletech Public Playtest Thread

Oh, interesting... is that a big box you shake and and then go across to determine either hit locations or clusters? Or is white to hit and black is hit location? So you can do it all at once for all weapons across your mech? (edit: Oh, I see now I'm following the thread more -- also used...

    Battletech Public Playtest Thread

Oh for certain 2d8 is likely to be seen by some as scandalous, sacrilegious, blasphemy, and other similar words. ;) Which is why I included the 3d6 option to not have to change die types. Besides not increasing the probability as much, I think 3d6 also overly reduces the impact of modifiers...

And thank you for reading them. :) If you (and anyone else) do give the 2d8 rules a try I'd be keen on hearing your experience and/or any feedback -- I playtested them here, but as always we play a certain way and so we may well not have encountered something that doesn't quite work. Hmmm...

    Battletech Public Playtest Thread

-nods- That's the thing I find too about trying to adjust values while keeping 2d6: because there's only 12 results each step between values is a big one. I've seen people play/suggest dropping the gunnery values as another "fix" and, again, it results in a big increase of to-hit chances that...
