D&D General Using the Deck of Many Things Tomorrow, Will I Blow Up My Game?

So reading over your options, I think the following ones are the biggest risk of "zaniness" Campfire: This might seem innocent, but long term is probably one of the single greatest buffs you can offer certain classes. A wizard that can blow all of their slots and then regain them all in an...

    D&D 5E (2014) DM Advice: Running a "Climactic" Combat

This is 100% what you should do if you want a specific outcome. If PCs are involved in the fight, than you need to accept their actions messing with your plan. But if you do it off screen, you can prearrange the results of that conflict, while the party's win or lost dictates another portion of...

D&D General Advice for revolutionary campaign

beyond what others have said, you mentioned that Tasha is recruiting the PCs to eventually defeat Grazzt. That seems.....a very very lofty order for just some old group of adventurers. What about these PCs makes Tasha think they have a "chance in hell" of defeating a demon lord? Is it they have...

    Spoilers THUNDERBOLTS* (spoilers I guess?)

This is for "How star wars was saved in the edit". Its a great showing of how so much of a movie is actually made in the editing room floor.

    Spoilers THUNDERBOLTS* (spoilers I guess?)

I mean, that's one of the best times to be honest. You see the final product laid out before you, and you can assess what is working and what is not. Everything before that is theory, possibilty, but once you have the movie all laid out can you assess if the work is working or not. I would much...

D&D 5E (2014) Drawbacks to Increasing Monster AC Across the Board?

To deal 12.5 damage, the character must hit (not crit) with one of its attacks, and miss with the other. So that's .6 (hit) * .35 (miss) * 2 (because it can be A hits/B misses or A misses/B hits. That's .42 = 42%. Its simply the math, you say there is no consistency....I mean its just the math...

D&D 5E (2014) Drawbacks to Increasing Monster AC Across the Board?

Thank you, learned something new today. That said, if your going to do all of that effort to provide superior numbers than the chart I provided for....you should provide such a chart in return:) Here is the chart with these probabilities showing every possible damage probability for a...

D&D 5E (2014) Drawbacks to Increasing Monster AC Across the Board?

65% is the second sentence in the original post. I didn't think a quick chart required the full mathematics of basic to hit, adv to hit, and disadv to hit probabilities.

D&D 5E (2014) Drawbacks to Increasing Monster AC Across the Board?

I am....so confused. 65% is a commonly quoted number in monster math discussions, and its been used heavily in discussions on this thread. That's why I used it, no more no less. If you think the 65% on a hit is not accurate, that the normal to hit rate is a big deviation from that....fair...

D&D 5E (2014) Drawbacks to Increasing Monster AC Across the Board?

I was not referencing any specific post in my chart. The 65% hit rate was thrown around frequently as the common base point, and so I used that. The damage was just a joe shmoe fighter

D&D 5E (2014) Drawbacks to Increasing Monster AC Across the Board?

Since there is a lot of discussion about what the hit rate translates to in game I thought this quick chart would be helpful. If you assume a 65% hitrate, two attacks (aka most fighter types). And then we assume a damage of 12.5 (1d8 + 5 str +2 for something like dueling mastery + 1 magic...
