Traveller: the iconic science fiction roleplaying game

Exactly. Take all that underhanded survival at all costs experience from those dungeon crawling games and apply it here. Prepare. Drop a ship on their head. Rig the briefcase with explosives. Fight at long range from reinforced positions from behind cover. Etc. The game's mechanics for combat...

Traveller: the iconic science fiction roleplaying game

All this about the OSR is one reason I love Classic Traveller 1977. It's very old-school design in the "rulings not rules" sense, but holy Spaceballs would it benefit from some OSR-style graphic and information design. I'm not as familiar with the Cepheus Engine stuff, but I'd be surprised if...

Other D&D Variant What is your favorite version of D&D offshoot/D20 fantasy today? Tell us why it is the best!

If we’re sticking with proper D&D-like games, d20-based that’s an offshoot, clone, fork, etc of D&D, then it’s Pirate Borg at the top followed close behind by Shadowdark, followed a bit behind by Old-School Essentials Advanced. If we’re opening things up to non-d20 and not direct offshoot...

Daggerheart Class Packs kickstarter is live.

How long did it take to fund? It’s only at 130%. Less than 900 backers. That’s kinda surprising for a CR Kickstarter. I wonder what’s keeping the interest that low? Everyone who wanted the game already bought the core set? People less interested because campaign 4 isn’t Daggerheart? Too...

Fabula Ultima Hardback & Bestiary Vol. 1 Kickstarter

For those wondering, the lock icons and numbers represent which scene in the quickstart you will use (or unlock) that part of the character sheet. It legit walks you through how things work in a specific order to teach you the game like a JRPG tutorial.

    Fabula Ultima general thread [+]

To me this is best exemplified with Inventory Points. Each PC has 6 IP they can spend on the following: mana potion (3), healing potion (3), anti-condition potion (2), elemental damage (2), and a magic tent (4). You can spend those IP at any time and they recharge at certain points. That's the...

Fabula Ultima Hardback & Bestiary Vol. 1 Kickstarter

Already passed the $500,000 mark. Here's to hoping it's another $1 million Kickstarter. Congrats to Emanuele Galletto and Need Games.

    Fabula Ultima general thread [+]

It's a great game for what it's trying to do. It's more narrative focused like Daggerheart, shared worldbuilding, shared storytelling, etc...but it has no illusions about emulating a real world. It's very much a game that's trying to be a JRPG simulator. Things work like they would in a JRPG...

    Fabula Ultima general thread [+]

The [+] is to keep things positive and prevent arguments about Fabula Ultima and more narrative-focused or video game-inspired RPGs. There are plenty of other threads to hate on games and play styles you don’t like. There are a few people on here who play Fabula Ultima and want to talk about...

Fabula Ultima Hardback & Bestiary Vol. 1 Kickstarter

To be fair, it's dead simple to make monsters in Fabula Ultima. I get it, but it's super easy to do yourself.

A few hours in and already close to $1/2 million. Good for them. Absolutely fantastic for that JRPG feel.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Just thought it relevant to mention considering your post about all tech being regulated, when...you know...that's not true and all.

Traveller: the iconic science fiction roleplaying game

Not really. It carried forward for quite awhile. It's in 81, the Traveller Book, the Starter Set, etc. I'm not sure when it disappeared, but it lasted longer than just the original.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Well, not really. Depends on the tech, depends on the place, and depends on how we define tech. Even if we broadly define tech to include things like agriculture, there are some aspects that are regulated and others that are not. As long as you have access to soil, rain, and seeds you can...

Traveller: the iconic science fiction roleplaying game

Yeah. All that. For me Traveller works best when it’s the ultimate sandbox. I find the trying to pay off ship-debt angle boring. I don’t want to RP having a job. I think of it like Frederick Pobl’s Gateway books. Anything is possible out there. So go out there. I also view the bones of the...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Most people don’t care until it directly effects them. The people cheering loudest about “AI” advancements now will be out of work and out of luck like the rest of us.
