Kickstarter CONington Game Convention (April 24-26, 2026)

My friends are organizing a small, regional gaming convention, taking place in Covington, KY, next April. I'll be running events and my old band from college will be getting together to play the party. Anyway, if you're in the KY/OH area, take a look. https://conington.org/

Streaming services, which do you have or are you getting rid of?

Does anyone use Kanopy through their Library? I have a vendor call this afternoon about adding the service for our patrons. I'm curious about anyone's experience with it.

Pathfinder 2E Looking for advice as a GM new to PF2e

I don't think it's possible to know "everything you need to know." I wouldn't even try. Go into your session to have fun, look up rules as they come up, and don't stress about being a system master. The basics: 3 action economy Tiers of success and failure After that, there are some rules...

D&D 5E (2024) How excited are you for the 2 upcoming Forgotten Realms books?

I'm clearly not the target market... 1) have no plans to play 5e in the near future (2014 or 2024) 2) always a DM so I don't care about player content 3) not going to get DLC on DND Beyond 4) don't like Forgotten Realms 5) after the failure of my Eberron campaign, I'm hesitant to use any...

Fabula Ultima (JRPG-styled ttrpg) is prelaunching a KickStarter for hardback covers and a huge bestiary

In my group, I'm the one who's not really into JRPGs. (I haven't really played them since Final Fantasy 1 - but that was my favorite back in the day.) I'm still excited about Fabula Ultima. The system is very interesting.

Fabula Ultima (JRPG-styled ttrpg) is prelaunching a KickStarter for hardback covers and a huge bestiary

We made characters for a campaign two nights ago, completing a two-session long Session Zero. (This group's sessions are short, about two hours.) Very excited to play it.

D&D 5E (2024) Tomb of Annihilation: likes and Dislikes

There's a lot to see (and do) in the adventure. It's also easy to drop in other jungle-themed adventure sites, such as Planet X's Jungle Tomb of the Mummy Bride. I also enjoyed the capstone sites (Omu and the Tomb). It's really a great adventure - I think too many people write it off as a Tomb...

D&D 5E (2024) Tomb of Annihilation: likes and Dislikes

Yes. We had a very entertaining session interviewing the guides. I printed pictures of them and they got to bring them in for job interviews. They ended up going with Salida, which was a very interesting choice for spoiler reasons. As I mentioned, the group sped through much of the hexploration...

D&D 5E (2024) Tomb of Annihilation: likes and Dislikes

This is one of the few 5e adventures I ran from start to finish, and we had a pretty great time with it. (It was with a different group than my usual ones I complain about, FYI.) Overall, I think it's a Top 3 adventure for the official WotC 5e era (I'd also include Lost Mine of Phandelver and...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I haven't commented in this thread yet. I just wanted to share that I ran a one-shot of Daggerheart on a gaming podcast. I've been asked by a few of the members on a regular basis to run a regular Daggerheart game. They had so much fun they "haven't been able to stop thinking about it." I think...

    Starting Daggerheart campaign. Any pitfalls?

From what I know about the system (but I haven't played it a lot), I would say that any class that has extra things to track might not be the best for a new player. I'm thinking of the druid with shape change, the ranger with its animal companion, etc. My biggest advice is that you should be...

Broken Empires Gencon2025 Dev Presentation by Trevor

On first glance, it seems like a streamlined Runequest?

    What's Your Price Limit?

My group rarely (almost never) purchases any gaming books. I've been known to purchase extra copies for the table to use. And minis, maps, pens, initiative trackers, tokens, character sheets. They bring snacks.

    Draw Steel News

Just my opinion, not as a professional layout artist, but as a general reader of RPG books. The text is black on a white background. The very stark brightness of the background leads to eye strain (for me). It looks like the text was laid out using Microsoft Word. There are few vision cues...

What gets me playing Draw Steel and not Pathfinder 2e?

Yep. Part of my lack of enthusiasm is due to my past 4e experience. I don't have a group motivated to learn tactical play. Honestly, I don't know if I even have the mental focus to do it. I have to say that the presentation of 4e's rules seemed better and more streamlined than Draw Steel.

What gets me playing Draw Steel and not Pathfinder 2e?

Yes. When I'm the GM, trying to understand basic rules of the game, including pacing and resources. And usually having to explain how the game works for 4-6 other players who don't own the rules.

What gets me playing Draw Steel and not Pathfinder 2e?

Strangly, that's one of the things that causing my hangup in Draw Steel. The asymmetric class design that has different ways to accumulate powers, different ways to recharge them, etc, it's an added level of complexity I don't like in a game that seems pretty cumbersome.

What gets me playing Draw Steel and not Pathfinder 2e?

IME, the pros for PF2: More content for players and GMs Archives of Nethys is accessible Great implementation on Foundry (we have no idea what Draw Steel will have) More similarities to 5E (similar mechanics, terminology, etc) I've only skimmed the DS PDFs, but I haven't seen anything that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Running the shortest game?

It's gotta be D&D 5E. I've tried suggesting "quicker" systems (like Shadowdark) but these folks want the name brand.

    D&D 5E (2014) Running the shortest game?

In a couple weeks I am running a game for a few casual players who stop by every few months to have dinner, drink, and kinda pay attention to a game that usually lasts less than 2 hours. Almost every time, I over prepare and worry too much. I want folks to have a good time, but there's no...
